I would like to be able to start my 89 Lx 5.0 with a toggle switch...What wire would i have to run to the switch?? (I want to wire it so that you still must have the key in the "on" position in the ignition)...any electrical guru's who can provide help would be greatly appreciated!!...thanx

im with you cheeks. I want to do the same thing, im just not sure which wire to put the switch on. a trick place to have ur car start from is the wiper washer thing button. on my car, for some reason the washerfluid does not work, just a thought.
Look at the "ignition switch" diagram. There is a red wire with light blue stripe that the ingition switch uses to pick up the starter solenoid when the ignition switch is turned to the "start" (momentary) position. You need to take 12v to that wire through your start switch - but be aware that if you don't take the power through the neutral safety switch, you'll be able to start the car in gear.

What seems to be missing is the fact that the ignition switch has two circuits, Run & Accessory. The Accessory circuit is NOT powered on when you turn the key to the start postion. This reduces the electrical load on the battery. Ever notice that the stock radio goes off when you crank the engine? That's why.
If you use a push button, you will have defeated all the safety interlocks and allowed the accessories to draw power when you crank the engine. Not a good plan, especially when it is a cold winter day and your battery is a little on the tired side.

The Germans are smart - they use a relay that opens the accessory circuit when the start button is pressed. That way the accessories aren't powered when the starter cranks.
The other way is to use a SPDT (single pole, double throw) push button that opens the accessory circuit before it closes the start circuit. More work to wire it like that, but fewer parts and probably lower cost.
