wiring problem

ok. ive been fooling around with the wiring in my mustang trying to figure out why the power sometimes shut off and have found out what the problem is. when i press my steering wheel to the right, the power shuts off, but when i press it over to the left, everything works fine, but it only happens when the engine is running. when the engine is off, nothing's wrong. what could explain this scenerio and how could i fix it. any hints or possible solutions are welcomed.

The ignition switch & associated wiring are suspect.

There is a FREE recall on Ford ignition switches. They overheat and sometimes catch fire.

Copy down you VIN number and call the Ford dealer nearest you. Tell them you want to see if the ignition switch recall for Fords & Mustangs was done on your car. They will ask for the VIN number & check it against the master database. If it isn't in the datbase, then you can schedule an appointment to have the switch replaced for free. The TSB is #95S28, and don't let them tell you that they don't do that anymore...

i agree with jrichker. the ignition switch is activated thousands of times over the life of the car, and over time they can develop an area of "free play' where they will not activate any or all of your electrical items, accessories etc. next time this happens, try turning the ignition switch forward or backward a bit to see if it fixes the problem.
