Hey guys, I tried searching, had a quick question. Latley ive been missing 4th gear when pushing the car. At the track I CANNOT powershift 4th anymore. And in the higher rpms it dosent like to go in. Is the syncro on its way out?

And Ive started feeling my shifter going side to side while in gear. Probably has about half an inch of play both sides combined, maybe alittle less. I said hmm maybe my handle is loose and its making me miss 4th. Checked the handle and its defiatnly the shifter wobbling, is this normal? Is it time for a new shifter? Hope its not the tranny. The shifter is stock with a Kona Racing handle. This wouldnt have anything to do with my 4th gear problem right? I didnt want to rip out my whole console to take out the lower boot.

4th gear could very well be a syncro problem, does it grind a little even with the clutch all the way in? There is a little plastic cup shaped thing that the ball on the end of the shifter fits into, in the shift rail, if yours is old and worn out it could cause quite a bit of play. An aftermarket shifter would also make a night and day difference in the feel of everything.

Just driving normal I never have a problem with 4th, its only in the higher rpms it dosent like to go in. And sometimes it grinds, sometimes it just dosent go in. Im not sure how the plastic cup thing looks, i doubt the shifter on this car has ever been removed.

Check the shifter bolts, unlikely but they could be loose. Check that little bushing in there too while your at it. As far as loose handles, I had to put an allen wrench in my shift boot so if it works loose I can tighten it on the go because when it's loose you can forget banging gears. And if it got real bad it was hard to drive period.
