well...just rebuilt the engine and got everything back in. now when i go to start it everything shuts off when i turn the key to the start position. after i turn the key off and let it sir for a few seconds the dome light will come back on and i can turn it back to run and when i go to start again....nada! help please

Be sure that the all the small wires are the same stud on the starter solenoid as the battery cable. The starter is the only thing that goes on the other stud. The red/blue wire connects to the small push on stud on the starter solenoid.

i never took those apart is the thing. i just hooked everything back up the way it was after i puller my engine. i read a few posts ago about a guy not having a good ground so i just went and got a new battery to engine ground, cleaned the terminals and i get the door chime and dome light. but as soon as i go to run and prime the fuel pump, the entire system goes down....no power to anything

right now i cant even get to the starter clicking. when i first tried to get the car to fire, the starter clicked and the power went out. now i cant even get to that part. i tried the battery in another vehicle i have and it fired right up so im assuming the battery is fine

checked and rechecked my grounds. now when i reconnect the terminals it will prime the fuel pump again in run, but when i go to start it just kills everything and i have to take the cables off the battery and hook them back up to get power...this is just confusing me.... could this just be a starter issue

hmmm....cuz i got all the ones as normal....i just dont remember seeing the neg ground from the battery going to the block

trust me, it does. engine ground connection #G101, the frame is G116.

have you tried putting a jumper cable from BAT NEG to the engine block to see if it will work??

edit: G#601-right rear of engine to firewall, G#122-Engine Ground, Right hand fender apron.

now im wondering if its a bad solonoid or starter? could that make the click noice and cause there to be no power in the car?

your car has the starter relay on the fender by the battery right?? if so, disconnect the wire from IGN to the relay (normally top center) and turn the key to START position. Does everything shut off?? if so, then there is a prob with the circuit between the relay and the IGN switch. if not, then the problem is between the starter relay (including the relay) and the starter.

well....got it running after lots of tearing back apart and testing. i first scotch brite paded the terminals, second i replaced the neg cable and connector, third i cleaned all the ground points, and last i finally replaced the positive cable and terminal and boom...it fired up without hesitation. thanks to all those who helped. the diagnostics did help and the best thing was searching and seeing what happened to others
