Woo Wooo. TKO600 Arrives on tuesday.

So who can give me a small rundown on how to put one in. Ive done some research using the trusty Search button but as everyone knows you always come up short.

Trans comes with a New Clutch disc, Trans(duh), New slip yoke, Hurst shifter.

My questions are these.

Will I need to resurface the flywheel. I have about 5-7000 miles on a king cobra that eventually helped me break 3rd gear.

Will I need a shop to put the slip yoke on the dirveshaft. And Joe at D and D Performance said the I can use the new clutch disk with my king cobra pressure plate. Is this true. There customer service is the best ive seen BTW.

If there's any other questions I come across Ill post up.

Forgot to add that there was a new clutch fork as well and a drive shaft spacer.

Anyone have opinions on the swap to a tremec 3500 or TKO500/600 series.

Nice! I'd like a TKO600... too poor . I'd believe D&D, they know their ****.

yes you can use the disk that came with the tremec the only diff is the spline on the imput shaft, pretty much, it will still be a 10 1/2 clutch disk just like the king cobra one.

Do you have the clutch disc alignment tool from the previous installation? You will want that. Not necessary, but makes getting the transmission back in much easier.

12 point 12mm closed end wrench for DS bolts.

Do a search on clutch installs on here. Essentially it will be the same.

its easy, I did it on my first try. It would helps alot if you have a friend help you or a tranny jack. I did it BY-MY-SELF and its not fun! Im glad that I can do it by myself but if I had to do it all over again I would of invited a few buddies over.

Cool thanks for the info everyone. I just have one more question. The trans requires a newslip yoke and I have no clue as to how to put one in. I went through my haynes manual last night and the pictures helped a ton but it didn't have any info on how to swap out a slip yoke.

And I dont have the alignment tool. I had my mechanic do It the first time. Ill have to try and get it back from him. The only problem is, he's the type that will not let you go untill he's done with about 2 hours worth of "Back in the day" stories. Hopefully Hazmat still has his maybe I can borrow it.

I just picked up a TKO 500 Friday. I was going to get the 600, but 1st gear was pretty long for the power I'm running. Are you aware of the gear ratio differences?

I needed to get a drive shaft spacer to work with my 94.

Yeah, the gear ratios were the reason why I chose the 600. Chicago is a city that carries a lot of dirt on the street which limits traction. And since I do tend to run the car more on the street than at the track, these gear ratios will hopefully help out traction from the line. Plus if I run a blower, or spray the car out of the hole on slicks, The longer 1st ratio will give me a little longer to get ready for the 1-2 shift. Thats the plan anyways. I know people will have opposite opinions on this but I like longer gears to ride out rather then short fast shifting.

A Teck at my work (Porshe Dealer) is into mustangs and reccomended for me to just get a new motorsport driveshaft(alum) while Im under there so I can get the new u-joints with it. Anyone know where I can get one for cheap.

Anyone have a recomendatoin on trans fluid. Will any random brand be fine.

I paid $2069 if I remember correctly. And that includes a new shifter, clutch fork, trans, clutch disc, clutch fork, aluminum bellhousing, 31 spline slip yoke. Hopefully Joe sent me a alignment tool.

On another note, I spent the last 3 hours on the car with a few friends and go only so far. PB blaster and a trip to the hardware store to get the impact gun working got everything up and running.

So far Ive taken off the
k-member brace
h-pipe
driveshaft
the one electrical connection that I could find(reverse switch)
trans crosmember
clutch cable

And that it so far. Not bad for 3 hours including 2 trips to the store for not buying the right parts the first time

Ill bring the camera and take pics of the trans tomorrow. It didn't arrive today which I was dissapointed at but will definately come tomorrow. From Michigan to chicago and it shipped out friday. Go UPS

And is GM syncromesh a joke or is that really a brand. (ON FLAMESUIT) GM

I didn't think it would be that expensive to put a TKO in.

I thought D&D Motorsports recommended GM syncromesh?
