I went to Astro Performance and www.thegearbox.org for all my parts to re-do my T5 a few years ago...

I think I wound up spending nearly as much as a new WC T5 but, a new WC doesn't come with a billet countershaft bearing support or one piece input shaft bearing retainer either.

Hanlon or Astro.

I used to have the part numbers for the misc bearing.s They are standard Timken bearings and you can source out individual ones if needed. Doesn't save you money, but came in handy when doing budget rebuilds.

I've never personally used Hanlon, but heard good things all over. If you're just looking for individual gears, Astro has them-I know I had to buy a couple things individually from there. I'm still gonna put a plug in for the gear box...they had all the parts I needed and likewise used Timken bearings. I can't speak to where the gears came from, but they had original Tremec/Borg-Warner part numbers on them and held up nicely behind my S-trimmed 302.

Hanlon stocks the gears, usually 2nd & 3rd come as a kit. The issue is did you also screw up the main cluster gear?

dont buy chinese no-name gears, buy actual tremec stuff..and get them ASAP if you wnat to save any money..national price increase 1/16/2012

Try to order the transmission parts before January 16, 2012. That is the date the Tremec parts are going up. Tremec is raising the prices on the t-5 quite substantially. The reason for the price increase is due to the T-5 not being used in any Domestic T-5 in the U.S. or abroad. That has made the Forgings Cost & Machining Cost go up. This basically means that the only parts being made by tremec for the T-5 are those for the aftermarket and the Ford Racing T-5. Unfortunately I think we are going to see a lot of OE components discontinued over the next 5 years.

Thanks,

Tony @ Astro Performance

i rebuilt mine last season, master kit with all new syncros, bearings, small parts, etc., new 3rd gear, billet cluster support and steel bearing retainer... but i never replaced the 2nd gear and 1-2 slider cuz it was still semi-ok and i was f'n broke lol..so i decided to do that this winter..i emailed astro to make sure i was ordering the right stuff and thats when he told me..i just ordered the stuff this morning actually...Tony said all the OE Tremec parts are going to go up, not the aftermarket pieces really..He said you can expect to see an increase on avg of about $30-35 for a OE 2nd gear like i was ordering...thats like a 30% bump

See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/onlineorder/product.asp to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550/TKO
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – http://get.adobe.com/reader/

See http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ or http://www.ddperformance.com for parts
Hanlon is very good. If you get a lady on the phone and her name is Karen, don't worry - she knows her stuff and is very helpful.

A T5 refresh kit with syncros, bearings and other small parts costs about $160. It does not include any gears or shafts.

http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/ also has a video on how to rebuild your T5 or Tremec. It costs about $20, and is worth every penny of it.

I did a Tremec 3550 rebuild, and it wasn't that difficult. The video was an immense help, and I would recommend viewing it. At $20, it will give you an opportunity to look and decide for yourself if you think that it is something you want to try to do.

T5 Shim kits – best product I have seen in a while… http://www.5speeds.com/t5/shims.html
“The Peel ‘n Place T5 World Class shim kit makes shimming T5 counter gear and main drive gears very easy.”

Honestly I cant tell you whats going on with mine yet. Im not really going to know untill I tear into it. The reason I think second gear is wiped out is due to the fact that it feels like it going into second gear then I let out the clutch out and it you can feel the teeth grinding. Its not the shifter stops either and I dont believe its a synchro because even if i double clutch it I cant get it to go into second, however if I slam it into second at about 5500rpm say at the race track I can get it to go into second. Its odd to me

So, you can get it into second gear, but requires a great deal of effort...and if you just shift normally, it sounds like grinding? Might've bent the shift rod for 1-2, or the shift fork pads are gone...either way, you'll need to pull it apart...

FWIW, the teeth between gears are always meshing-except reverse, so if the car doesn't sound like it's eating ball bearings just rolling along, the gears themselves aren't lunched. As soon as the car starts rolling, the mainshaft and countershaft are spinning, and gears are turning together at different speeds individually. When you select a gear, the synchro assemblies mechanically link them through the shafts. The grinding sound is actually from the blocker rings (or some call them dog rings) engaging the synchro...if the clutch gets engaged before these are together, you get grinding.

yea its gotten worse since ive had the car, the PO also ran gear lube in the tranny instead of mercon. Like I said even if im sitting still and put it in second gear it feels like it goes all the way in, and if I let up the clutch I can feel like nubs grindind against something I can feel it in the shifter handle. But yea if Im driving it normally around town 9 time out of 10 I absolutely cannot get it into second gear
