hey i just removed my smog pump today and let me tell you i enjoy the quicker revs. i have afactory delete a/c so its pretty peppy. i was wondering if going to electric water pump and then buying a electric fan would be a big improvement and how would this effect the cars reliabilty? thanks for your time.
 
Out of curiosity, was your smog pump starting to seize? You really should not have noted a tangible difference.

Of your noted ideas, the biggest gain would come from the E-fan, which happens to be cheapest. :nice:
 
I will be using a Meziere WP-311 on my 410w, if I ever get the motor back together.

I found a couple of guys on the forums who have used these pumps on street cars with good durability.
For the price that these things run, longevity is the major concern.

CSI also makes an e- water pump. Most folks seem to use the Meziere pump though.


Wish I could post some actual experience, but so far all I have done is the research to decide which pump to use.

you know i dont know the condition of the pump itself. but i can tell you that the previous owner not only plugged the line going to the h pipe ( it has a rubber cap on it ) but the electric lines had been just cut off. although when i ran the car threw inspection they did say i would have passed cali sniff test. when i removed the smog pump i removed the pump itself and the lines running to the heads only, is there any more to it?

finally i did some minor digging and i think im going to stick with either a standard or high volume mechanical water pump. but i am converting to a electric fan from taurus. thanks for the help.
 
I have an electric water pump on my '05 GT and it has about 14K miles on it with no problems. It saves me 17+ HP according to the manufacturer and I belive it.

It is also very efficient, my temp gauge never ever goes above 1/2 way, even in heavy city traffic in the hot summer.
 
I am only driving the alternator on mine now. I have a Moroso electric drive that I bought used. I picked up an extra motor to keep in the trunk "in case." It would take all of 5 minutes to change over. Anyways, with an aluminum underdrive crank pulley only driving my new 3G alternator, it does rev a lot quicker. No more smog, A/C, PS, or water pump. The only thing is, if you go electric fan and pump especially with underdrive, you will definitely need a larger alternator. I have no stereo equipment at all and when the fan was on low speed and the water pump was on, it was barely breaking even. The high speed hasn't come on yet (set at 190) but if it did with the old alternator, it was going to be game over. The electric water pump is very nice, especially at lower speeds this thing never comes close to overheating.

I just got rid of P/S and am taking off my smog pump soon (by the way, what size belt are you all running for just alternator/crank/water pump? There are 2 ways to go e-
One is rather expensive, as it involves completely replacing the factory mechanical pump with a new e- pump.

The other way is much less expensive, as all that is needed is a small electric motor to drive the factory mechanical pump via a pulley/belt.

As far as what you need to do, it's not hard. I pulled the A/C and PS and mounted the Moroso electric drive on the driver's side. That dropped quite a bit of weight between the pumps, brackets, etc... The electric drive hardly weighs anything. I am running a 29 1/2" belt to drive just the alternator with an underdrive crank pulley by using and modifying the old smog/alternator bracket. I might try and run shorter due to clearance issues on the passenger side due to clearance issues but it is getting hard to find 6 rib belts that short. You will have to do a low mount for the alternator to keep the belt from hitting the water pump pulley and remove the charcoal canister, the alternator wil hit it. I messed around for 2 days trying several different mehtods to try and mount it with the parts I had, no expenesive kits. I can send you pics if you want to do it. It finally worked but I'm going to purchase an adjusting rod and probably paint or powdercoat the bracket.
