would a bad charcoal cansiter line cause idle problems???

So I recently have been having issues with the 88. When driving on the freeway the car started to cut out on me for a second. It would do this in traffic in all gears too. Felt like it did when I first got it. Found out all the vacuum lines under the intake were cracked and broken. replaced them all and it ran like a top.

Today I couldn't find anything with the wiring but then I noticed the line that comes from the intake to the charcoal canister was off of the charcoal canister. I havent had a chance to run it tonight and will be taking it to work in the morning. Does this seem like the culprit???? The line is a decent size so to me that would explain the surging and the sudden idle changes. Everything else checks out though.

The disconnected line is a vacuum leak, and vacuum leaks to strange things to idle performance & stability.

ok KOER I get 94 and 44. I put the hose back on the canister but not totaly sure it is good enough as it is on loose.

also this all started after being in a traffic jam for over an hour. It didnt over heat but it sucked..... any ideas. I am going through right now and replace any hoses that look suspect. other than that I hope it isnt anything major as it has 155K on the clock.

ALso I don't notice anything at WOT. Pulls great and all.

any help is appreciate and as always Jr you are the man.

Like Joe said, that vacuum line being disconnected is a leak, it wont effect the charcoal cannister because it will still just purge into the atmosphere but it will be a vacuum leak at the manifold. I would just take a piece of the hose to your local parts store and replace the whole hose as it may be dry rotted and have cracks you can not easily see, then take it from there and see how it runs. Unfortunately there are quite a few things that could cause bucking so you gotta start somewhere.

ok, I fixed the lines. We'll see if it worked.

Still have a code 21 though.... not sure what it is....

Yeah, I agree with the bucking statement. it has been doing this for a week now and getting worse. I think this should fix the probably but we will see. Thanks for the reply.

Well, it means the ect is out of range. Usually if you run the codes with the engine cold, you get this.

Warm the engine up and run the codes. If you still get code 21, then the ect is prob bad and should be tested and replaced.

A bad ect can cause so serious issues...might even be the source of your prob.
