Would ditching the flows have any SOTP feeling difference?

I got my 2 chamber flows put on about two years ago and loved them. But now I am at the point of getting kind of tired of them. I was thinking of just going to the exhaust shop and getting another set of mufflers. Possibly something OEM style, or maybe some of the cheaper turbo style muflers the shop carries. Basicallly I just want to quiet it down and not draw the kind of attention that flows attract. Will I notice any diffference in power at all? Keep in mind my car is completely stock except the flows offroad h and K&N filter. I would doubt it would be noticeable since my car is just a DD anyway. Anybody ever switch from performance mufflers back to OEM? Thoughts or opinions???

There will be no SOTP difference at all. If you go to oem style you will probably lose power. If you do somehow gain power with turbo mufflers, you will gain at most 2hp.

Borla, Magnaflow or Dynomax will meet your needs.

And about the quiet mustangs are for girls thing....my car used to have 2 chamber flows, I liked it for a while, but then it started to get annoying. You could hear me for like 3-4 blocks, it attracted every cop's attention, and it gave me a headache on the freeway. I switched to quieter Borla exhaust. It isn't as loud, but it is still louder than the average mustang. Almost sounds like it has cats with longtubes, and an offroad X pipe.


And if I could do H/C/I on my drop and keep it as quiet as it is with those 3 chamber flows, I would be happy. Nothing like a quiet mustang just ripping off on the loud as **** mostly stock piece of **** mustang. Just like most of the ones I see around here. All bark and NO bite.

This is the best exhaust post I have read. The cars you usually fear the most are the quiet ones. No need to attract attention if your car can't boogie. My Flowmasters are too loud as well. Can't wait to get something different.

Flowmaster has a ton of different styles and noise levels. Delta flows, or 70 series are quiet but still have the rumble to them.

Right, that is exactly the reason I am getting rid of them. I have to drive like a grandma so that my car doesn't make to much noise in the middle of town. And to think I spent good money making my car sound like this, now I really wish I still had the stock h-pipe and mufflers.

flows are great until you have been in the car for more than 15 min at 2000 rpm then you can hear a damn thing. but mine are dumped so i think im gonna switch to some tail pipes see if i like that better.

I switched from 2 chamber flows to Dynomax Super Turbos and picked up 3 to 4 horse across the board. The flows were old style and were rusted somewhat so I am not sure if that had anything to do with it but I did pickup power and my car is quieter.

Well I did it this morning. I went to the muffler shop before work and had my 2 chamber flows replaced with plain old OEM mufflers. I love it no more drone at all. It still has a decent roar when I really step on it since I have no cats, but at idle you can't even hear the car running! I loved the loud exhaust for a while, but I am glad it is gone now attracted WAY to much attention and gave me a headache on the highway.

I keep hearing Dynomax Ultra Flows are the way to go. They produce more CFM than Flows and are much quieter. I can't stand my 2 chamber flows and will chunk those POS after Christmas. I just got some 2 1/2 tips, so new muffs are next.

TS, glad to hear you like it. mine are somewhat loud, but not like many. i like it. i agree with BD50 - we have all seen/heard this (follow along):

you hear some horrendous racquet - maybe local dirtbike club is out or a bee hive with 10K bees was nailed with a weed whacker?
nope, local ricer. you look way down the road and see nothing. then you start scaling back toward the stop light. he is cranking away with all he has (and it sounds like it), but he is running about 10 seconds to 60 mph.

second scenario: you dont hear much but see someone take off quickly. you think, wow, i dont even hear him, he must not even be standing on it. i bet when he stands on it, it really sings. wow.

that is my take anyhow.

Glad you like them. On a near stock or stock motor there won't be much performance difference. It might even increase the power the a little with more back pressure.

Loud and proud baby!

To be fair, I have 2 Stangs and a Grand Cherokee (5.2L All Time 4wd ), so I generally alternate except for now the Jeep gets most of the duty, the GT is put away until Spring and the LX is a back-up. If I had to drive the GT all the time, I could see how it might get annoying...with the o/r h pipe and flows, it's loud and the lope at idle is to die for

I had my mufflers unhooked from the LX for about 6 months one time...that was annoying as hell after a while.

I loved my flowmasters when I had a Prochamber, but now that I have an X-pipe they don't sound too good. I can't wait to get me some Spintechs. Maybe after christmas.

Although I heard they are louder than flowmasters, but that's ok with me!

I say stay with the Flow's because your
stang will sound better with them!

I'm 46 years old and love my uncatted 2 chamber Flows. My wife says it's too loud but what does she know? She calls it the Devil car anyway. She had a little issue with turning it around 180 during rush hour on one of the busiest highways in my area when it was raining.
