i am thinking of getting a centrifugal supercharger but i want to run it on my stock motor, would it hurt it with like 9psi or would it be smarter to run 6psi? also i have 4.30 gears. would the supercharger even help me that much with those gears? i have seen cars with superchargers that have 4.56 gears that run good. also i was looking at powerdyne ones an liked how they dont use an oil feed line, are these superchargers any good or would i be better off with a vortech? thanks

ditch the 4.30s Not good w/ a street driven car w/ a S/C. Running 9-10 LBS is fine as long as its tunned right. 3.55's are the best all around gear for a street driven blown car. Vortech, Paxton, KB, and Procharger are all good. Stay away from Powerdyne.

4.30s arnt as bad as you probably think they are, you probably havent been in a car with them, if you did i bet you would like them. like i said ive seen people with 4.56s an vortech's an there cars ran really good times on the track for what they had done.
i also drive my car everyday and have no problem with it.

Stay away from Powerdyne.

My car is pretty much stock atm and I have a D1-SC Procharger w/3 core intercooler waiting on my floor in the other room to go on, but want to do some more things before I throw it on. It's definately hard to keep from putting it on now.

I would say in general between Powerdyne and Vortech.... Vortech all the way. A guy I know had a Powerdyne and the UPS truck had his s/c more then he did. Constantly breaking the inner belt.

As far as the gear goes and not saying a 4.30+ gear wouldnt work but a good rule of thumb is 3.55s or 3.73s for a S/Ced car. Personally I am going with 3.73s when the time comes.

Good luck.

edit: btw dont waste your money on a 6psi blower.

i say go with the blower and you wil see what we mean about the gears once you put it on , with 4:10's you cant even make it thru the 1/4 mile with out hitting the rev limiter . so you will see .

They will work, any gear ratio will work just depends on how useless you want 1st gear to be. 3.73's are fine 3.55's are the best all around gear when it comes to being blown.

I'd kinda like to see a healthy 9psi Vortech with 4.30's!!

It'd probably be something like this .....

1st Gear: REV ... tire smoke ... REV LIMIT -shift (10 ft)
2nd Gear: tire smoke ... REV LIMIT -shift (25 ft)
3rd Gear: stumble ... rev ... tire smoke ... REV LIMIT -shift (45 ft)
4th Gear: rev ... REV LIMIT -shift (75ft)
5th Gear: rev ... REV LIMIT -UGH OH! (120ft)

It should make a neat show!

can you call up and get a pre-made chip when you put a s/c on a stock engine? there is really noone around me that will make a chip for a s/c. Do you really even need a chip? how about if i just get a wideband 02' sensor?

The cars you see with tall ass gears and a SC are probably running a HUGE TIRE. If you can fit a 30 inch tire in there go for it lol.

A lot of the guys running a tall gear like that are running 4 cam motors with extended rev limiters. It's fine if you are shifting at 7500 rpms.

Back to the point, the motor will be fine with a blower. Paxton makes a bad ass kit with a front mount intercooler. That's what I would go with. You can always work out what gear you want later.

i could always swap them out if it didnt work out well but im gonna try it anyways, ive revved my car up pretty dam high an never hit the rev limiter, what rpm does our rev limiter kick in at? has anyone hear actually had a blower with 4.10s or 4.30s or is everyone going by what they have heard or researched? i know you can say obviously it wont work because of the reasons stated already but i want to talk to someone that actaully ran like that.

My bad, I don't know why, but I assumed that we were talking about a 4.6 here. The new Paxton kit is for a 4.6. Fuel cut on a 5.0 is suposedly 6000 rpms. It will go beyond that, but it will get real lean real fast. You don't want it to go lean with a blower.

I ran 3.90's with a single turbo, and traction was non-existant. Use your head, 4.30's and a SC is toooo much, unless you get a very tall tire.

yes i have a friend with a 98 cobra and 4;30 s and a vortech and it revs soo fast but it runs out of gear even with 7500 rpnm shift points and now it has broken pistons so thats not good either i have 3.73s in my car and have thought real hard on going to 3.55s that way i can USE first gear.

Don't take this the wrong way bud, just trying to make a comparison.

Lets say you get a new set of 2" Headers w/ 4" collectors, 4" exhaust with say 4" bullet mufflers and dumps that reach no further then under the front seats. This is on a pretty close to stock mustang. You get on the forums and ask if that setup is too much and would the addition of a Turbo hurt this combination. There are probably very very few people who have done this. Okay bad comparison but you get the idea. Yes there had to be a poor sap who has made a bad call and learned from it and passed a bit of info along.

The power adder on a car makes up for the need for such a low gear on a naturally aspirated car. Even a street car with spray could benefit from a higher gear but they usually sacrafice the negative effects of the low gear because they drive the car on the street so much (without spray).

Cars with power adders when launching at the track even on full slicks say 26x10s (relatively average size tire) with 4.10s or higher tend to have a hooking problem off the line. note: this will of course also depend on power output, the limits and extent of the suspention setup, tire pressure, transmission of choice and the weight of the car.

An automatic can tend to go a tad higher with a power adder then a car wtih a standard trans. This is due to gearing, converter size and also the ability to shift that comes with the automatic.

You did however ask us what we thought and there will be few people who have done this for a reason. People will believe what they want to believe - Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander Like their bone stock car will be faster with the addition of a big cam. No clue why I had to throw that in there

Anywho hope you do well with your combo, I will more then likely be running 28x10.5s when I get my combo the way I want it and may even be switching back to an automatic of some sort. (another reason why I may choose 3.73s over 3.55s)

Oh and A friend of mine was calling everywhere looking for a S/Cer for his combo and he did mention that Vortech sends a computer chip that they help you tune (via phone) until its right. His car is an '03 GT so maybe its just for those, cant hurt to call and ask tho. Good Luck bud.
