short story. racing an R32 (240hp VW) about 100mph, in a slight turn, my back end loses grip for no reason. hit a lamp post.

I won btw. :[ (if i wasnt so far ahead of him, I would have hit him instead)

tip: don't race on streets. you can hit pot holes or just lose grip for no reason because there is oil or something. I learned my lesson the hard way.

question for you all.. do you think the car will be totalled?

edit: my car is stock except for 15º timing and 91 octane.. i schooled the r32 pretty good.

I was going to say it would be close to total loss until I remembered we have airbags. That may be the clincher

We own a salvage yard so I have a pretty good idea...if the bags are blown it's definately totaled. We get a lot of newer totals with less damage. At least you didn't get hurt, and lived to learn a lesson. Street racing's lame, and unfair.

oh yeah.. I didnt really get hurt.

I got a small scrape under my chin.. (from the seatbelt i think?)

A pretty big hit to my forehead (from the mirror)

And a small bruise to my knee and legs.

I'm very lucky... though if I was REALLY lucky I would have never seen that R32 and raced it :[

nevermind those xenon headlights on newer rides. Those skim a mere $2-3K right off the top of the value.....

Not sure what you meant but we deal in vee dubs and hondas so none of them come with xenons...out at the auctions there's always 94-95 stangs with less damage that are deamed a total loss.

I'd venture to guess its totalled for the reasons listed.

There was a road shut down around here recently due to an "unknown" substance on the road. There was 17 accidents in 3 days!!! They shut it down until they determined what it was and how to clean it up... I haven't heard anything about it yet. Which reminds me... one night I was on my way home and I was in a construction zone with a HUGE barrier on my left, and the shoulder of the road on my right. Here a tractor trailer seemed to blow its guts out all over the road and covered it with oil. As soon as I hit it the front of the car continued straight as if I didn't have the wheel turned... I damn near hit the truck. I called 911 and they shut the road down for a few hours!!! So, like the gradient said, be careful if your messing around on the streets as you never know what can happen.

There's a guy that races at the local race track with an 80's T-Bird with a BBF in it. He's got a sticker on the back window that says, "Cars are replaceable, lives are not - don't street race."

It hits me hard because I've lost 1 good friend in a street racing accident. Where ever you go after your final breath is taken, the last thing you want to do is look down on your parents and see how hard it is for them to overcome. Street racing and car accidents in general, in my opinion, are the worst way to lose a life. There are far too many "what if's" to risk it.

Good luck to you and I'm glad to hear everything is OK.

I raced my friend and it was the last time I will race ever again. Did it for personal gain and respect because they all think I drive like a grandma. So I raced him and smoked him like a cigar (eclipse, exhaust, rice essentials).

I went really fast and I didn't like it. He said I did a little fishtail after the race and it scared the crap out of me because I didn't even feel it.

No use in wrecking just to impress some random guy on the road who you will never meet in your whole life.

yeah, it was a really pointless waste of money. I am going to lose a lot of money on this.

The past couple days before the wreck, I put in new rotors, pads, new clutch and 2 new tires.

All money wasted now...

Though I'm lucky I didnt die, losing all this money, and feeling like an absolute idiot really hurts too.

Glad to hear you are o.k and I hope EVERY ONE here can learn from your mistake. I am guilty of street racing every now and again but I try not to do it often and never on a busy street. Oh and if they total it they tow the car away meaning you can strip parts off, and they will never know trust me 4 friends of mine have sent there cars on spares and no interior.

I'm glad you're OK. It looks as though it will be a total loss. Our cars are now 10/11 years old already. It doesn't take much damage to total it. Buy it back and part it out, this may help you get some of your money back.

Man, I've seen cars a lot worse than that, and the owners just buy them back and make them as good as new again.
