wrong oil

i've made a mistake and put 15w50 in my N/A engine. atleast it was M1 but...
Drain it all and go back to M1 5w30? Drain Half and put in a lighter weight to even it out? i seen some searched threads where people do that. I'm hearing valvetrain noise from it until it's warmed and i swear even though it's not really possible that everything feels sluggish.

15w-50 won't kill your engine. Now if it was straight 50w oil, you might cause some wear. Our engines don't like thick oil on start up because of small oil passages. Thick oil can slow itself down and not get to assembly fast enough. I think it's MUCH more dangerous to run 0w-20 or 5w-20 in an engine compared to thicker oils. Plus if your engine has higher mileage, it might like 10w-30 or 10w-40 oil.

+1

I would NEVER mix diff types of oil let alone diff weights.

You guys are getting worried about nothing. I called the Mobil 1 tech line
and the Valvaline tech line just to confirm that you can mix different weights
of oil with no issue at all. Of course you will end up with a different weight.
Like I said if you mix 15w 50 with 5w 20 you get 10w 35.
You can also mix pure synthetic with conventional oil with no issue. So you can
make your own blend. But I wouldnt do it with different brands.
I have ran pure 15w 50 Mobil 1 in my former 99 gt ( High milage ) during the
summer when its super hot here, for 3k miles with no problem.
It will make your engine feel tighter, and kind of a slower reving effect.
And you wouldnt want to run heavy oil when its cold obviously.

Ok, you do that if you want. Me personally I will use the correct oil in my car. It just makes sense.

And some people change their oil only after 10k miles, sure your engine might make it but in the long run you are probably doing damage. Like mama always say..better to be safe than sorry:D

Im not saying that anyone should run anything but what ford recommends,
Im saying that it is OK to mix different weights together and that you can
mix conventional with synthetic if you so desire. There are certain circumstances
when you might want to slightly change the weight of the oil you run.
