I was messing with a WRX (non-STI) and he had a quiet exhaust which looked stock and I couldn't hear the turbo or BOV. We stopped at a light and talked and he said it did have a turbo, it just doesn't spool up real high and a borla hush exhaust so it keeps it quiet. Was he blowing smoke or did he really have something? I saw him take off hard a little and I didn't hear turbo or BOV.

Also, on the highway he got on it and I dropped only to 4th and started to gain on him. I let off then got back on it and still gained on him. It was a young kid so I'm not sure.

all WRX's arn't turbo, but you don't need a STI for it to be turbo. Only the base model has the 2.5 liter NA then theres turbos on them after that. It's likely his was turbo'd but nothing TOO hard to handle

all impreza's aren't turbo, but all WRX's are turbocharged but the turbo is pretty small so yea they don't do too much unless it's an STI.

DING DING DING! RIGHT! Also they are setup as diverter valve (recirculate into intake) stock, so you won't hear crap inless its been switched to vent to atmosphere.

The 2006's are 2.5's http://www.subaru.com/shop/overview.jsp?model=IMPREZA&trim=WRX_SEDAN&command=overview
Were the older ones only 2.0L?

I wouldn't call the new WRX slow. I've been quite impressed with the two I've seen run.

Do these two WRX's hang out with the stock RSX's that beat 99-04 GT's all the time?

Ok. WRX was beaten. I haven't gone up against an STI because aren't they the ones that are supposed to be close to Cobras (on paper)?

WRX RS isn't turbocharged. If it has hood scoop, its turbo(unlike ours, theirs are actually functional).
I think STi gets bigger turbo or something like that

The name of the car is not a WRX... Its Called an Impreza.

The Impreza 2.5 RS is not turbo

The Impreza WRX is a 2.0 from 2000-2004 and 05/06 models are 2.5 turbo

The Impreza WRX STi is a 2.5 With a bigger turbo, center diff control, Some other little goodies and a Big Gay Wing..... really lame wing if you ask me.
The 2.5 STi is only a U.S. Car. In japan the STi is a 2.0..... and i think all JDM WRX models are 2.0 to meet with WRC Rules of nothing bigger than a 2.0. Suby knows to sell a performance car in the U.S. it needs a bigger motor.

...and remember, Ford had the Top-mount Intercooler before Suby did

There is no WRX RS. ALL WRXs are turbocharged. The GC8 (93-01) Impreza had no WRX model in America, but had WRX styling such as the hood, and spoiler.
