wtf bad pilot bearing again!?

These mustang transmissions really seem to suck!

I got my 2000 GT in june, and about 2 weeks after I bought it I started getting a light chirp/squeek when the clutch pedal was realeased while in neutral at a stop. I pulled the trans out and replaced the pilot bearing, clutch disc, pressure plate, and T/O bearing just to do it all while it was out. I know it was the pilot bearing because the inside diameter had a nice piece missing when I removed it.

Just got home tonight and when I parked it I slipped it in neutral for a min, released the clutch and thought I heard that noise again. Sure enough its there, and start to push in the clutch and it goes away.

Not sure how long it will go before I really start to have problems, and I'm not aware of what could happen if I dont replace it. Is there anything I could be doing driving wise that will cause it to go bad? Only problems I have had with the car are clutch related, and I'm not even really that hard on it. Guess I just hate the thought of having to pull the trans out again, and I dont have access to a shop right now like I did the first time.

Well, the items that you replaced can cause premature failure of the pilot bearing of they are installed improperly. Was the bellhousing aligned properly with a dial guage? Was everything torqued to spec and tightened in the proper sequences?

I used the ford clutch alignment tool and tightened everything down by the sequence in the ford shop manual. IDK, your right I probably did do something wrong. Just seems that alot of people do seem to have problems with these bearings though, especially the T/O.

Oh you are right, lots of people report problems with them. It sounds like you knew what you were doing when you installed that stuff...

it's the T/O bearing trust me.. it's a HUGE problem in these cars.. the test too know if it's the T/O bearing is if it does the noise only with your foot off the clutch..

It does do it with my foot off the clutch only; soon as I apply any pressure the noise stops. Perhaps this is the same reason I lose my pedal feel feel from time to time? Sometimes its as bad as no firmness till right before engagement.

EDIT: Will a bad T/O bearing cause excessive pilot bearing wear, as stated in my original post? The first time I had this problem I assumed the pilot bearing was the cause because it was missing a nice piece out of it when I replaced it.
