all these new cars 200 something horse means nothing.
wow they can get a v6 or 4 cyl to make a peak of 250 something horsepower. but look at the torque figure, i would guess its under 200 ft lbs. and torque is the actual FORCE and engine makes. all the "pushing back in the seat" and smoking tires is not horse power. its torque horsepower is simply a figure of how fast the torque is working in a way.
when you slap heads and intake and cams and what not, putting that stuff on increases the torque output of the engine, and you want your horsepower figure to go up the make the car move efficiently.
i hate hearing kids going "my new civic makes more HP than a 5.0 mustang, i could smoke one"
then you get them out on the road against your mild bolt on fox. you know just exhaust and simple stuff, and the mustang will EAT IT ALIVE. the reason why is the honda is make its 230 HP or w/e they are making, WOW now take a look at the torque figure, then you find something like 150ft lbs. WOW that sucks.
look at the mustang, in stock form it makes twice as much as pretty much any car out now, 300 ft lbs. 300 ft lbs in a factory car is PRETTY nice in a factory car even today. and the mustang had this back in 87.
this in my opinion is still why a 5.0 still stomps things to this day and still suprises people and still is a benchmark for performance
so all these guys 4 doors and imports making more peak HP numbers going around saying they can beat a 5.0 or w/e can go F off. sure you got this "HIGH" horsepower number but if you have no torque to back it up your not going anywhere.
you must remember Horsepower is not a force, its a figure. torque is what you feel when you feel your gut sinking back towards the seat. and i like when my gut moves around in a fast car feels like a roller coaster.
