I've actually been shut down by two SHOs on two different occasions...they're nasty on the highway (but then, with 4.10s you don't get the luxury of top speeds..lol)

yeah, that seems to me like a f1 (sort of) style engine as I understand it. Very short stroke, high revving.

Actually yeah, the article mentioned the engines are being built in the same facility as their F1 engines so that's probably right. That's why sometimes you do get what you pay for...i bet that engine gets way better mileage even than a Mustang GT and makes almost as much power as the GT500, and with 1.4 liters less and without a power adder.

Anyhow didn't mean to hijack....carry along

super high compression and not much lowend though are some down falls that are likely to happen.

From Car+Driver:
http://www.caranddriver.com/autoshows/12525/2008-bmw-m3-concept-official-photos-info.html

With double-VANOS variable valve timing, an individual throttle body for each cylinder, a 12.0:1 compression ratio, and a shrieking 8300-rpm redline, the all-aluminum engine produces 414 hp at 8300 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque at 3900 rpm.

So yeah, 12:1 compression is pretty high for a street car, so that'll probably be the German version since they have higher octane over there. Still, 295ft/lb isn't too shabby, that's enough to cause a ton of traction problems

Yeah it's gonna be nasty for sure. If you think about it, all the M3s have always competed against higher caliber cars like Vettes and Vipers....they're usually the last in line with the high HP numbers those other cars are showing these days, but up until now the M3 has always been a 6 cylinder car...that's pretty impressive. This new car with such a light weight V8 is really going to be nasty. I'm a huge fan of the M cars. Don't even get me started on the V10 they use in the M5

me and bk kept up with a brand new m5 the other day, they sound awesome, but we started going around him and then we had to stop lol. I would rather have a viper any day of the week than a m3, vipers have retarted torque, sweet sound too!
