x-pipe or h-pipe?

On a 1995 cobra, what would perform best? Also...which one of these sounds better on this car? opinions.......thanks
i just recently bought a ss bassani o/r x for my 95 cobra, i have a bbk o/r h on there now...when i put the x on with the 2 chambers i will post up a clip, i like the vicious sound of the x, but i also love the deep muscle car sound of the h. as far as performance i don't think it's that much of a gain maybe 2-3 hp.

I love my X, but I would recommend anyone interested to listen to both and see what they like personally. Hardly any 5.0 has an X in my area, so I like being different. It does get noticed, when you want it to.

An X with the flowmaster catback will sound different than an X with a non-chambered catback (Bassani is non-chambered). When you get into catbacks, then tailpipe diameter becomes a consideration (depending on what size you like for tailpipes).

My X is definitely a higher pitch than the H. Any upgraded mid-pipe will increase the exterior volume over stock. Look at the catback as the final part that adjusts the tone or attitude.

I have an catted X, with 3 chamber Flows.

I'm not too big on it, as it sounds more "exotic" than "throaty."

I will be installing a MAC cat-back soon, so we'll see then.

If you want classic V-8 sound, do the H.

If you want a little, maybe 2-3 hp, in higher RPM's, do the X.

agreed. the power gains are not a big deal. i have a X with two chamber flowmasters on the back and it sounds great. but i agree the x has a little more high pitched sound not the deep throaty muscle car sound that you get with the H. i guess its all personal preference:shrug:

dr gas x pipe ftw. typically like everyone else said the power output will remain about the same between h and x pipes. i have a friend with a 91gt that went from an offroad h pipe to a dr gas x pipe and put 10 more horses to the wheels. the dr gas x pipe is different than any other x pipe out there and it sounds different the any other one too. its all about the placement of the crossover that makes the difference. if you decide to go with the x pipe, definatly get the dr gas x pipe. its well worth the money.

I have Flowmasters and I wanted to throw my BBK offroad X pipe out the window the second I heard it! I traded immediately for an offroad H and it was much much better...I did, however feel a small amount more pull up top with the X pipe

:dead:

Generally speaking...

X pipes, since they 'flow better', make more power in upper RPM's.

H pipes, sound deeper, and may be better in the lower RPM's.

You also have to consider if the pipe has cats or not.

I personally don't think no cats is louder, but that's just me.

I too would have to say the Dr Gas X is in a class by itself

All you gotta do is look at it to see it will flow differently
than all the rest ;)

Most of the other x and h pipes are not gonna be much difference
as far as power goes.

I had a Bassani catted x with my old self ported E7 combo
and I liked how it sounded :nice:

I also like how my current mac h sounds too :nice:

I'd have to say I like the old school sound of the h pipe better :D

Personally I have a pypes catted X and I love it, even with the stock cat back, definitely changed the sound for better and is a little more responsive in the upper RPM's. Most around here have H-pipes and mine does stand out. I get compliments on the way the car sounds all the time. Especially after I full throttle it past someone. lol
