Can someone give me a laymans description of what the difference is between the two? I am going to get one of the two w/cats (don't want to mess with having to change to get emission test) this spring.

Thanks!

X-pipe looks like an x H-pipe looks like a H

X-pipes make more power but some people like the way an h-pipe sounds.

I have a Dr. Gas x-pipe and at idle it sounds a lot like an h-pipe but screams at wot

Pretty much what '96&'01Stang said. H-pipe is what comes stock on your vehicle, and it looks like an H. With an x-pipe the exhaust gases converge in the middle of the pipe into an area that looks like and X, and then it branches back out to your mufflers. Goto ninosport.com and you will see pictures of each. Oh and X-pipes generally give you more power than an H.

Thanks guys. I will have $1500 to spend come spring and didnt understand the differnce between the two. Though I did assume one looked like an X and the other looked like an H. So if I understood correctly, an X will give me more torque and bottom end power? I dont want drone as this is on my daily driver and I have to drive 35 miles each way.

If you dont want drone, may I suggest going with an X pipe and Magnaflow mufflers/ Cat Back

Dr. Gas/ Magnaflow X pipes are going to sound the most like an H pipe...

An X pipe actually makes more power everywhere in the RPM band, but makes more in RPM band, but the difference is bigger in the higher RPMs

An X pipe will have less drone then an H pipe

If you dont want drone, you will want to stay away from the chambered mufflers, such as FLowmaster, MAC, and so on, and go with a straight through like Magnaflow or Bassani
