Anybody familiar with those 3 cylinder Yanmar diesel engines that come in [lots] of stuff?

Does anybody happen to know what the output pressure should be on the lift pump?

I've got a Ford CM-274 with this diesel in it and lately, it's been having an issue where the throttle just falls off. The thing nearly stalls and then it'll recover.

I've put an in-line fuel pressure gauge between the filter and injector assy, and I'm reading [zero]. Very odd that it runs just fine at other times

The pump ain't cheap. Trying to verify a bad pump before ordering.

Thanks!

Unfortunately no. Have no experience with diesel engines. Is this on a tractor?

Ha! That's a good portion of my job around here.

Here's a secret... You want fast and multiple responses? Post something that is incorrect.

Story time!

In my 20s, I drove delivery trucks all around northern and eastern Iowa - an early 90s (I think....) GMC Topkick, diesel, 6 speed lo/hi. One day, on a route in Cedar Rapids, I went to leave a stop light and it had absolutely no power. It would idle fine, but when trying to accelerate it would just fall on it's face. I limped it around the corner and into the nearest gas station's parking lot, called the office and they brought another truck, helped me swap my cargo from one truck to the next, then had the GMC towed into the nearest shop. It turned out that their mechanics were just checking the box for the air cleaner when doing the PM. I was shown the air filter and it was collapsed on itself - a new filter was installed and the truck was back in service the next week.

This is related because you said you installed a fuel pressure gauge after the filter and it's reading 0 PSI? How old is the filter? It might not be a bad idea to just install a new one even if it's relatively new - at least you could rule that out as a culprit. Just a suggestion....

Im more familiar with the 7-10hp single cylinder types but have some friends that have hd bad luck with their 3 cyl gennies and the problems are attributed to the middle cylinder kicking a headgasket due to a warped engine block when casted..

According to the manual the pressure should be 422 psi at the mechanical and 6-8psi at the electric lift pump..

As far as the tractor itself it should of been dealer prepped and tuned....

In my Yanmar engines I had to stack shims under the pump until I got the flow rate right.............

Good Luck

My Ford tractor has a gas 4 cylinder in it...LOL

This is what I figured and I've got zero from the lift pump. New pump is on the way.
