year for adjustable cable?

Did any year stangs come with an adjustable clutch cable? I'm doing a t5 swap and my pedals came with a non-adjustable SVO quadrant, but the cable I have is also non-adjustable so I'm kinda stuck right now.

No, however a firewall adjuster and a stock cable is really the best set-up you can go with, most aftermarket adj cables are JUNK.

Well I have this stock cable, but with the cable attached to the quadrant inside the car I'm still probably 1" away from the clutch fork at the tranny end of the cable. What's the trick for hooking this thing up?

Thats sounds about right. You have to pry the clutch fork back with something, like a pry bay or a large screw driver and hook it on.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I finally got my car running and timed, and that non-adjustable cable is too tight; clutch is partially engaged at all times, causing it to slip. There HAS to be a year range of Mustangs that used an adjustable cable; what are these years, and will this cable work for me with a t5? Thanks

If you are using a stock quadrent and cable.. It is adjustable to a point. Self adjusting actually. To adjust it you pull UP on the clutch pedal.. Towards you.. This causes the two quadrents to "ratchet" and adjust itself. Pull up with your toes behind the pedal, then push the clutch to the ground. Do this 5-10 times then try it.

My bad.. I just read you have an SVO quad. If you use a non adjustable single quad.. you HAVE to have an adjustable cable or firewall adjuster.... I have a Ford Racing adjustable cable and it's fine. The firewall adjuster is for fine tuning... Not to fix your problem. No Mustang had an adjustable cable stock. An adjustable cable is like 20-30 bucks. You're not gunna get it right unless you get one.

As previously stated the adjustable cables are no good. Just get a firewall adjuster and you will be set. If you want to just get it working for now you can trim the rubber bushing that is on the stock cable at the firewall until you get the required clearence.

Don't see how you all say "they're no good". I've never had a problem with them, and no one I know has ever had a problem with theirs that I've installed... Maybe it's the installer?

And exactly how would you mess up the installation of a clutch cable? Adjustable cables blow...

I dunno how you could mess them up.. All I'm saying is I've never seen nor heard of an adjustable cable blowing. You tell me how they "blow"

It's not that they "blow" so often, even though they can over time. It's just that they stretch and they frey, causing the cable to break over time, and possibly frying your clutch in the process. I've already had to deal with this, and I will never use an adjustable cable again.

Well firewall adjuster wasn't an option since I HAVE to have the car on the road by sunday (summit/jegs is out of the question this late). Went to town and out of three parts stores found one that had an adjustable cable and was willing to rock me pretty hard for it. Gripe about adjustable cables all you want, but until this one craps out on me they're ok in my book. Also.. why would an adjustable cable be more prone to fraying than a non-adjustable piece? I don't really see the difference strength-wise.

The materials that they are made from are not as good as the Factory cables. Most adjustable cables are made from a company in Italy. The cheaper materials don't hold up as well as the Factory Ford cables. Also the inside of the adjustable is not lined like the factory cables and do not last as long.
I have seen them fray, snap, strech, seen the ends pop off and loose their adjustment.
I'm just letting you know what I have delt with over the years growing up around several Mustang shops in South Florida and watching and learning from their mistakes.

Hum... Sucks. I've never had a problem, and had the same adj. cable in my car for years. It's a Ford adjustable cable, dunno if it makes a difference.. But mine is fine and working perfect.

ive also read good things about the ford adjustable cable.

the alignment from the quadrant to firewall can be off, as can the routing of the cable (cable + heat from headers = bad).

I have the Steeda adjustable cable and it is a quality piece, teflon lined and as described by Steeda aircraft quality and 10000 lbs tensile strength. Anyone had a problem with one of these?

The Ford cables and Steeda cables are identical I believe, it's the other aftermarket cables that suck. They tend to stretch, loose adjustment and they do not take any heat.

The other issue with the adj cables is they hit a blowproof bell unless you cut the threads down, grind on the bell or buy one of the new extended forks (which IMO is a cover up or after thought unless you need one to get the alignment straight)

A good multi hook quadrant, stock cable and firewall adjuster is the way to go. Sucks climbing under the car to adjust it all the time as it stretches. The cheap adj cables, and I have even seen a Ford adj cable do not like HIGH strength clutches, SPEC stage III.
