Just learned something.I thought a cat 5 was 5 times stronger than a cat 1.... Wrong,a cat 5 is 500 times stronger than a cat 1.

Glad I got my valve covers from ya.
BTW I'll hang on to that fuel line bracket for ya, don't want THAT to blow away! There was something else but can't remember right now, anyway, good luck to us!

I went through a couple strong Cat 4s and many Cat 3 Hurricanes when I lived in FL. The devastation from the big ones was absolutely mind blowing. I simply cannot imagine sustained 185mph winds with gusts over 200. The difference between the beginning of a Cat 4 is 130. Cat 5 starts at 27mph higher than that at 157. In fact, each category has a range of 15-20mph differences. So, I don't think it's fair to lump in a 185 mph storm with the other Cat 5s. It's essentially off the scale.

It seems that the weather channel is predicting it will drop to a Cat 4 by FL landfall, though, and even that is going to be extremely destructive. Good luck guys. Get your families and friends outta there. Everything else can be replaced.

Only thing I'm worried about is falling trees. Gainesville won't let us trim much less remove nuisance of threatening trees so there's usually a lot of tree damage during a storm. Other than that I plan on jamming on my PlayStation and long as the power holds out.

As long as we can keep our roofs on, we'll be fine. This is the most warning and planning time we've ever had.

If any trees or branches are threatening your home, and you're staying there during the storm, it constitutes and emergency. Cut 'em down!

Hurricane Jose (a cat. 3) is following the same path as Irma . But Jose is 7 miles per hr. Faster. What would happen IF it caught up with Irma ?
Would they combine forces ? Or cancel each other out ?

Most cells of a CMU wall are not solid grouted and reinforced with rebar so that is what would happen. Cool video

mandatory evacuations now in place for

  • All monroe
  • Certain dade Country
  • certain parts of Broward County
  • Palm Beach Island
  • Brevard County- Cocoa Beach, all barrier Island CIties

We are talking probably over 1MM peope trying to get out of South Florida on either I95 or the Turnpike. I am hearing of gas shortages on gas stations on the turnpike, accidents all over and it taking 18 hours to get to Altanta from Miami- normally a 10 hour trip.

The eye just moved up north and is now supposed to be at Pompano Beach- about 10 miles south of me.
It will be a category 4 when it hits.. possibly a 5 if it is not slowed down by Cuba

Miami, Ft Lauderdale and Orlando airports are all grounded for outbound flights
Many flights cancelled

Gas companies are price gouging in South Florida
Amazon charging $20 a case of water
The Fl attorney general threatening to sue them

No gas at most stations
No Propane
No batteries
No bottle water
No plywood
Bread, toilet paper, kitty litter, and many other supplies gone
.
We will start feeling it tomorrow
