You Want Brakes - I Got Brakes!

Well, to track my fatty GTO I needed some bigger brakes. I pulled of the 11.7 inch fronts and replaced them with the 13 inch Baer GT package that includes the 2 piece rotors (4 lbs less then stock), SS brake lines, massive PBR calipers, and new pads. In the rear I replaced the stock rotor and replaced them with slotted and zinc washed Powerslots. I will be using EBC yellows onthe front and reds on the rear for track use and AP551 fluid. SS lines for the rear are ordered from Stoptech. Lets just say that after I seasoned the rotors and bedded the pads, this system will suck your eyeballs out of the sockets!

Here is a closeup of the front caliper. I got the stock black calipers because I didn't want to pay Baer to powdercoat them for $150.00 so I spent $10 and got a ceramic high temp paint and did them myself. They came out pretty good!

You may be able to get by with high temp brake fluid (I like AP551) and a nice set of track pads (put on a day or two prior to the event). The Cobras have a nice PBR setup already like the 05 GTO but the 04 GTO was under braked as fas as I'm concerned!

No ducts but I did remove the dust shields, or should I say "keep the heat in shields!" They are a waste of time and with them removed, the heat can dissapate faster.

Are you concerned about the drilled rotors cracking? I have seen this concern posted on a few sites (mostly corner-carvers). I know Baer makes great quality stuff and this may not be a problem with them.

If they are not seasoned and bedded correctly then there is a chance of the drills cracking. I ordered slots only but they sent me these and to return thsm and wait for another pair, I would not have them on for my next event! If they crack after I used Baers break-in process then I will return them for the slot-only!

^^^ I got the front brake kit on sale for $709. The rear Powerslots were $79 each. The race pads were $198 for the set of 4. If you want to know where I got this stuff from send me a PM.

Those calipers are the same calipers used on 99-04 GT's. I wonder is baer would just sell the rotors and caliper brackets? Probably not huh?lol

They are the same brand but not the same size. I had my buddy that owns a 40th 04 GT help with the install and these calipers are quite a bit larger then his. This caliper is basically the same size as the Z06 Vette. You could contact Baer about the brackets and rotors though.

That looks great.. I just upgraded my brakes as well with Powerslots all around and Hawk pads.My car is a also a show vehicle sponsored by my company so the upgrades cost me zilch =)

I know, I know. :damnit: I ordered the slot, zinc wash only but they sent me the wrong ones. It would have taken to long to swap them out before my next event on 6/18 because Baer was behind on what I originally ordered. I talked with the Baer R&D guys and they told me to season the rotors in real well and I should be good. They will send the slots and when they come in I will swap out the rotors only (two piece). I will keep one set as backup!

Ok, I was going to do a new thread, but wut the heck - nothing better than raising and old one from the grave!

So, Doc, it's a year (+) since you put the Baers on, are you still running them, with the drilled rotors?

I was really hesitant about going with a set of drilled rotors, but if they're good enough for stock MB's, Porsches, etc, I reckoned, what the heck. I just got the GT+ kit for my car (14" rotors, calipers, ss lines), and was pleasantly surprised to find that they're silver in color, so they won't leap out as massively different from the stock rears.

Well, got them on today. They look AWESOME (the stockers looked lost behind the 19" wheels). Driving out to the freeway, I'm thinking "Holy Carp! Did I just spend all that money on THESE brakes?!?" - they felt marginally better, but only just. Then I hit the freeway - Hey-Oh! Let the games begin!!! The stock brakes felt like I could push my foot all the way through the floor - the first time I got my foot into these, at speed, the car responded immediately! Good, solid pedal feel and great stopping.
