Short throw shifter install

I'm going to order a steeda tri-ax shifter, and I'm going to do the install myself. it seems pretty straightforward, but I have limited experience working on cars. What are some things i should watch out for?

It's not tough...pretty easy to do really. Just make sure you transfer the plastic cup on the shifter ball over to the new shifter.

Unsure, but the MGW directions will tell you if they do or not. Mine for my 3650 told me not to even though i knew this beforehand

I have a T-45 and it suggests that you do.

The install is one of the easiest mods you an do yourself. Minimal tools and it makes a huge difference. I have the Tri-ax and has been good to me but I've heard good things about the MGW piece. In fact I have the MGW handle on my Tri-ax

My advice is just like said above, get an MGW instead of the loud triax, be careful when removing the old shifter (rock it back and forth to remove it, don't hammer it) .. when installing the new one, use plnety of RTV around the base of the trans where the shifter mounts to (gasket not required, mines quiet as hell with just RTV,) and like they said above, make sure to take that plastic cup piece off the old shifter and put it on to the new one. No shift stops.

Both the MGW and the tri-ax are great shifters...but i went MGW simply because it was rumored to be silent.

And it is. There is ZERO noise from my shifter. You would think it was the stock shifter.

I had to make an insert to use my Mach 1 shift knob however. I just cut a 1/4" stud of a M12x1.75 bolt, cut a slot in it and used a screwdriver to adjust the hieght of the knob.

If you can use a socket wrench, and squeeze a tube you can install a shifter.

I agree with this, the gaskets are very nice. Dunno if it actually reduced noise, as i have never used rtv with my mgw, but it is so much easier.
