Swapped MAF today.

Today i put on my cold air intake and while i had it out i decided to try out the cobra maf i had . The numbers on my stock maf were F1ZF-12B579-AA and AFH55-03B . the numbers on the cobra one that i put on are F1SF-12B579-AA and AFH70-02 . I got mixed reviews from the stang net community about how it would work , so i decided to try it out , to my knowledge , which included taking it around the block , it ran fine and had a signifigant power gain , and no check engine light came on. Before i drive around on it too much i would like to know if i can expect any long term issues from running it . If it helps to know , the rest of my engine is stock, and i have an aod transmission.
 
Does anyone know if it will do anything harmfull to my engine if i keep the cobra maf on ? Im really out of my league on this , i know that it works now , but i dont know if my engine will blow up in a week from using it , lol. Any info is welcome!

The transfer functions for a Cobra meter vs. a stock GT meter are DIFFERENT. Swapping over to 24 lb injectors does NOT make everything ok.

So you drove around the block and noticed a power difference. I'll have to chock that particular anomaly up to wishful thinking.

The trouble is that the higher you go in CFM the further away you get in the differences between your OEM GT meter and the Cobra meter. So to answer your question.... YES you're running a risk of running lean and causing harm to your motor.

At 4.4 volts, the Cobra meter is measuring 425.3 CFM but your stock A9x computer only sending enough fuel to supply 347.4 CFM. The difference is outside of the EEC's ability to adapt. The higher you get in the RPM range, the less it will be able to compensate and the leaner you will run. Lets also not forget that 02 sensor input is not read at WOT. So whatever the adaptive control has interpolated from the lower end of the RPM range is what it will add in fuel up top.

This is not a good thing since the fuel curves are further apart at the top than they are at the bottom.

If you insist on running this meter with 24 lb injectors then either GET Cobra computer or have your A9x EEC tuned with the proper transfer curve.

The way you have it configured now, you're asking for trouble.
 
I think the 93 Cobra MAF tube was a 70mm, correct?

If this is right then an A9* computer should be able to run a 93 Cobra MAF
IF
a MAS is used from a 94-95 Mustang and stock 19Lb injectors are used.

This would then be the same conversion as using a 94-95 70mm MAF on a Fox computer with 19Lb injectors, which is pretty much a direct replacement.
At least as far as the accuracy of the MAF/MAS is concerned.

did you even read daggars post?? it makes alot of sense to me.... so you would need the cobra MAF 24's and the cobra computer. that would solve your problem. and as for the HP gain that would make sense simply because you opened up the breathing hole for the motor.
 
I just recently purchased a 70mm MAF. It said it was calibrated for 19# injectors. Is this wrong then? I think the guy said it was off a Cobra. I have been driving it like it is and it is getting horrible gas mileage. Could this be the reason? I used to get 320 on a tank now I am getting 220.

Assuming you have a 70mm Ford MAF tube...

Then the 19# calibration is FALSE.
Ford did it's calibrating for the MAF and injectors in the computer.

Depending on what sensor you have in the MAF tube, it will work.

You must use the 94-95 Mustang sensor.
And this will only work if you use 19Lb injectors.

To get a better handle on your economy issue, pull your codes.

This should give you something to go on,
but definately check the part number on the MAS.

He's referring to taking the electronics out of a 94/95 sensor and installing them into a Cobra meter housing.

Should work... I don't see why it wouldn't.
 
I got the numbers and they are F3VF-12B579-AA. Google shows this as a 80mm MAF from a Lincoln Mark VIII. Is this true? The guy I bought it off of said it was a 70mm off of a cobra calibrated for 19# injectors. Should I just sell this and put my stock 55mm on?

It doesn't look like the F3VF sensor will work.

shows that the F3VF uses a a rectangular plug, as well as being from a 80mm MAF.

I would keep looking for the F2VF.

Keep us posted, I'd like to hear how things pan out.

Thanks for the info. I think I will just sell this one. That website shows that it is calibrated for 24# injectors. HOpefully someone will need this.

I guess I will just go back to the stock MAF. My gas mileage has been killed by this. I used to get 360 miles per tank but these last couple since the swap have been 210.

It think it it important to point out...

That sensor is not calibrated to an injector size. The Ford sensors are calibrated to work with a specific computer and MAF housing.
The Ford computer contains a setting for the MAF housing/MAS sensor combination.
There is another separate setting for the injector size.

You were told incorrectly that the sensor was 'calibrated', but that doesn't mean you should pass on false information when you sell the sensor.

The sensor came with the housing. It looks like my stock housing, just bigger.

If MAF sensors are not calibrated to a particular injector, why do people sell them like that? i.e. 70mm calibrated for 19# injectors.

Can my MAF be used on a Mustang? If so, what years?
