the heads suck dickive finally found a good mustang for my 1970 engine swap...what i would like to know is if there are any drawbacks from a 1986 rather than a 1989-1993 5.0.
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks,
taylor
are you using the 86 mustang motor for a 70 ford, or the 70 engine for the 86 mustang??
the 86 heads were called swirl heads, they were a one year only head that were designed to reduce emissions. That they did, and power robbed 25 horses from the 5.0 too, and are useless to build up. Additionally the 86 motors had flat top pistons with no valve reliefs, so you basically can't use any other head on that motor (there is one that will work though, twisted wedge, I think)
im going to be using the 86 motor in the 70
Not entirely true, as was already stated, you can you Trick Flow heads with a decent sized cam. I'm running the stage 1 with 1.7rr's, Trick Flow claimed I could even run the stage 2, but I didn't want to.
