I know this is a noob thing to ask and I looked back in the archives to try to find someone else asking recently but couldn't find it. Then I did a search and couldn't find anyone addressing my problem, so I'm sorry in advance. I went to put my new X pipe on today (for the 3rd time. Every time I tried I couldn't get the passenger side bolts off and had to quit because it was dark, take my deep well socket to work, grind it down, try again the next week) and I finally got the stock H off, and began putting the new X on. The directions said I needed to remove the two studs on the driver side manifold and replace them with some bolts, I ignored this direction and tried to bolt the new head pipe on using the existing studs, this didn't work. It leaks... bad, it's not even close to tight. How do I get the studs out of the manifold? My mom's boyfriend's friend (yes, long association) works at a shop (gas station) and was absolutely useless when I went to ask him. He told me "well, they're all different I can't say, you may have to torch them out blah blah blah" and I asked if he could just get the two studs out and he said he could and I asked how much it would cost and he told me "oh, well I don't know how long it will take, I mean it's $60 an hour." Needless to say, I just walked away thinking he was an ass. So, what should I do? Alternatively, is there any way to MAKE the stock studs work because at this point I really don't feel like blowing another Sunday doing this. Seriously, everything that could go wrong, did. Again, sorry for asking about installing an X Pipe but I honestly looked first.

Wow who makes it? My SLP bolted right up to it with no stud removal, in fact i took it out and back in today and i know what your talking about w/ the passenger side bolt. Get some gunk or liquid wrench or what i use "Really good ****" then I used a 3/8" 10" extension w/ a universal joint + the socket to turn it. You're going to torque the extension a lot before it budges so using perhap[s a 1/2" drive+extension would be better. As to yuor stud problem if you know you have it in there right and it isnt sealing w/ a gasket in between call the maker - you chouldnt have to take off the studs. Don't be sorry for asking questions, it's how i learned
The problem is definitely not the passenger side, I've got that down to a science. It's the driver's. I've got it cranked down as tight as it will go and you can still move the pipe around fairly easily. Like I said, the directions said on 99-04s, you have to replace the studs. hmm it says thread the new bolt through the flange and into the manifold, yeah SLP is whack if you have to do that for 99+. I dont know how you can take off the driver side studs. Like they say though, tighten it last so the pipe is in the right position and not angled down when you tighten it

The stock studs have a shoulder on them. You can grab them with a Vise grip to take them off. I believe they even have a flat spot to turn them with an open wrench. MAC exhaust comes with a big washer/spacer thing so it seals up without having to replace the bolts.
Can I just buy the washer/spacer thing that MAC uses? I really don't think the studs are going to want to come out very easily.
