They say on the box to be used on a 1979 to 1995 motor. My engine builder said I could use a pre 1979 block if I had to because the gaskets are the same. This sound right?

I had a 1980 motor found, but when the guy went to pull it out, it had a hole in the block. Now I`m back on a motor hunt. My builder wts a pre 1981 block cause the cranks are stronger. So now I`m having to find a 79 to 81 block and it aint easy, made bunch of calls already.

221 only has a 3.5 bore. The valves might hit the cylinder. I doubt he would find one anyway. Even the 260 has 3.8 bore, but again they are not as common as the 289 and 302. The 255 from the 80's has a reduced bore too, IIRC.

It`ll be a 302 for sure

I`m starting to lean toward a stroker kit, but I dont know if the stroker kit would have the old stile crank pre 82. It has a 2 peice rear main and the crank is alot stronger.

I've got one in a 63 Fairlane! Don't know why anyone would use one in a performance application though.
