I don't know about the black in the tan interior, but the blacks are as close as you could ask for. I have not taken any pics of mine since I installed it. After I drove it for the first time with it installed I realized I should have done this along time ago. It makes it feel like a new car.
from what i've seen (and from what you can see in ^^^ that pic--99+ interior), the "black" on the fr500 wheel is actually the "dark charcoal", thus won't match our *black* completely.
it's a freakin sweet wheel, though--wish they made it in our black.
I'm still not real sure what the FR wheel is, but........ Before I received Tom's mint 5N95 Cobra wheel, I had a dark charcoal wheel. The color mismatch bothered me.
This is another, less expensive option for you. A guy posted this a while back, said that the fitment was superb and the color match was excellent, but he had the porno-red interior. You can get them in tan, but I'm ordering a black leather cover from these guys shortly, since I plan on swaping alot of my interior to black next year. I've seen a black steering wheel in a tan interior before and it looked fine. Worst case is I'd paint the air bag and column covers in black to match with vinyl paint from 50resto.
I had an upholstery shop repaint my fr500 steering wheel to match the 94 Grey. Year later, it has been holding well. I do treat it with Lexol leather products regularly to keep it clean and conditioned.
I'm just throwing this out there, but the black interiors seem to fade after 10+ years so you might get lucky and that dark charcoal will match fine. I was expecting my shiftboot to be pure black but it was that charcoal and it looks great (with the slight fade).
Some good info herein, but the black/charcoal match question is still open.
I'd like to see some good photos.
And I do find it hard to believe that a painted rim could hold up in daily driving.
