Need some help w/ clutch purchase.

Mine is in need of replacement, but I'm not sure what to go with. I want a soft peddle, and funds are limited.....but I need something to handle 300-400rwhp max. My car is mostly street w/ the track time some, but not much.

It's the 86 Capri. Currently it has a new clutch cable, but I have to pump the pedal a time or two because it doesn't like going into any gear w/o grinding or is jerky coming out unless you pump it.

Any suggestions on what to go w/ for a broke family guy?

Really? I was told that the KC had a really stiff clutch feel to it. Interesting.

Did you have to turn your flywheel also? Just wondering if I should do that too and not sure on the price.

the softest pedal/strongest clamping force is definitely gonna be a centerforce dual friction clutch but they're pretty steep. so if you're on a budget, the king cobra is the way to go. they re-designed the pressure plate a while back to give it more of a softer pedal. i've got one and i love it. i actually had a centerforce dual friction clutch and my king cobra clutch and i traded the centerforce to a friend for some stuff and kept my king cobra, thats how much i love this clutch. :nice:

As long as you have a quality clutch cable and quadrant to go along with it, the King Cobra really doesn't feel much (if any) stiffer than stock. The clutch in my Geo Metro is light enough that I can easily push it down with just my toes if I drive barefoot, so compared to that, yeah, the KC is a lot stiffer. But the KC in my notch isn't THAT much more stiff, and compared to a stock clutch in, say, Frankenstang's '04 V6, it's almost the same. :shrug:

JHGT- That looks like the right kit:nice:

Now, the Ford Racing Heavy Duty has a heavy pedal. The Ford Racing King Cobra has a lighter pedal, for being on a budget I suggest it. The pedal isn't to bad.

A Centerforce for $300 is a good amount 'lighter' and holds more power.

Turning the flywheel sometimes isn't necessary. Just make sure it is flat, with no bad heat spots, and smooth. It can cost anywhere from $25-$40. I have installed clutches without doing it, and it was just fine. It is more a piece of mind thing...

My centerforce was really stiff, and when I swapped over for a KC it's not nearly as stiff. I have no complaints about the KC it's fairly priced and works well

If you have the stock quadrant and clutch cable, the King Cobra is stiff. With the aftermarket stuff you have, you should be in good shape. I have the King Cobra pressure plate with the McLeod organic clutch disc and it's awesome. But if you want to spend a little less, get the regular King Cobra. It's the best kit available for the price. I think D&D has them for $169. I would do a rear main seal, throwout bearing, and maybe a pilot bearing while everything is out.

P.S. - we need pics of the Capri. It looks amazing.

Something was wrong with it, which surprises me. The Centerforce clutches have the lightest aftermarket pedal feel for the power they hold.

I have been behind the wheel of several cars with each, the Centerforce always win in the 'pedal lightness' contest:)

I had both, back to back - a considerable difference.

Changing out the cable, made it even better:nice:
