Nissan 350z

yeah, i have gears, exhaust, intake, plenum, throttle body, and i keep up with one till about 80 mph, but after that, they start catching speed real freakin quick, and yeah, i ahve a stick, but with an auto without gears, you wont be able to hang especially if he has the latest model like 06-07, the ones that puss almost 300 hp

the z's from 03 up have 287 hp, and the ones called the "track" model
have 300 hp unmodified, with a 6 speed they have to be fast, and
those guy's like to mod just like us.

03-05 had 287 hp, 06 had 300, and 07+ have 306 hp due to a new dual intake design that feeds into three cylinders on the left and right.

The Track model wasn't top of the line Grand Touring is. Also the Track model was discontinued after 2005 IIRC.

With a good driver I have seen 13.7 timeslips, but have heard of 13.2's but I have no proof. They are fast cars for what they are. I think it is impressive that they get 306 hp and 268 ft/lbs out of a 3.5 V6.

They are limited to amout of boost/hp due to high compression and non forged internals. These cars might not beat you in a straight line but they'll kill s in the twisties stock vs stock which I'm sure everyone knows.

Get a Mongoose kit from MPH and be done with it....you won't have to worry as much about this or that car....that is if you can drive

honestly, throw on some nitrous and you can be happy for a good while.

gears for the auto, 410 ftw. dont fear the gear

hahahahaha thats what i did. but i am retiring this stang. she is going to be mainly for shows and just driving no more racing for me. I am waiting till i graduate college and get an 04 cobra and then TT it and make a fully built car. but my GT isnt going anywhere i plan on keeping her forever.:nice:

keep in mind that the 350Z is a V6. 287 hp from a V6 results in a different power band and torque curve than you get with a V8. I won't argue the cars aren't fast, just that an early 350Z with 287 hp isn't any faster than a 99-04 5-speed Mustang GT making 260 hp.

The newer 300 hp cars might be faster than the 287 hp cars, but you are talking about a 13 hp difference. Driver can make that up just by shifting quicker and running to redline.

Alot of people "race" without looking at the tach, and shift slow while lifting entirely off the gas. A huge amount of time can be made up just by knowing how to race. Not being afraid of the rev limiter is a good thing. Don't hit it while racing, but don't be afraid to.

One word TORQUE v6's never produce the torque that a v8 will and that is why a lower hp v8 can out run a higher hp v6 period. Most ppl don't realize that hp is so misleading some times, torque plays a big factor.

and kind of depressing ford can barely muster 300hp out of a 4.6L 3V motor?

true, however 268ft/lbs@4800rpm is still pretty ****ing good coming from a "peuney v6". 306hp@6800rpm right up top where you need it the most in a race. the 07 Three-Fitty's have a very smooth powerband, if i didnt get my cobra i most likely would be driving a new 07 350Z right now.

however most look at the power differences but forget a 07 350Z is a bit more expensive than a 07 Mustang GT. you can get a Mustang GT brand new out the door for 27k, not so much a 350Z for that price.

My buddy just bought a 2007 350Z and I raced him last week. Both of us are stock. His Z came stock with 306hp and that car is fast! I dont think I ever had a chance. We still haven't raced from a dig yet, but from a roll. . .the new ones will eat you up.

Good Luck and I hope its an older one :nice:

i'm a tech for nissan..not that it means anything but...just from workin on z's all the time and g-35's....they are actually pretty different..motor is the same but..over all suspension and chasis etc it's all different..earlier infiniti's and nissans were basically the same except body panels..but all the newer stuff only thing they really share is the motor.. those z's are pretty bad ass too.. 3.5l can put out some suprising power

I've raced an '04 and it was no contest. I killed him. The '05 and older are very heavy and the 3.5 v-6 might make decent hp, but not so impressive on the torque side. I ran down a brand new one the other day. It was a salesman taking a hot chick for a test drive trying to sell it to her. He looked at me all cocky and grinned. The look on both of their faces was pretty funny when I pulled on him. Ofcourse, I do have some mods including cams and 4.10's. I'd say if this guy has an '05 or older, you have a chance.
