After a few weeks I am still looking for the sweet-spot of this cars power band.

Only mod.'s are a K&N drop-in and removal of the air silencer.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

do u mean sweet spot for launching the car? or sweet spot where it makes peak power and peak torque? peak torque on a stock car i believe is 302ftlbs at 4000, not sure where the peak hp is.

04GT, looking for peak power and torque. Not looking to launch, but certainly would like more consistency when trying to walk away from tail-gaters (and the like)...

Thanks.

well with ur mods ur going to be very close to stock still. so about 260hp maybe 265. I think hp peaked at about 5200rpms. torque will be about 302-310 and peak around 4000. get some gears though if u want to walk away from tail gaters because it will get u into that powerband quicker.

04GT,

Thank-you!

If I go with gears will that also drop the powerband to around 3500 rpm? I'm an old fashioned guy and running a 90 degree V8 in that range gets me nervous.

I know the motor stoday are far more durable than thos even a half-decade back but I had a Monte Carlo SS that hated 4K so bad it gave up the ghost (and it's oil and coolant) on me.

Similarly, what gears would you suggest, keeping in mind I run the highway for my commute?

Thanks!

no gears will not drop the power band lower. they will just make u get to the powerband faster by gearing it lower.

if u decide to go with gears now comes the tough part deciding what gears u want 4.10s if u want to stay an all motor build or 3.73s for forced induction.

so decide on what route u want to take and then go from there. oh and if u cant decide between those gears 3.90s are a perfect option for those on the fence lol

I went with 3.73s since I drive quite a distance each day. In my situation, the 4.10s would have been too much gear being that I drive 65-75 for long periods of time each time the car is drove.

I don't quite fall for the N/A 4.10s/FI 3.73s bit. It all depends on the situation and the type of driving the car will see.

about a month ago i was wishing i had 4.10s in my car cause i thought i was staying NA but now i am glad i have 3.73s cause i cant imagine the pain 4.10s would have been with spray. id have to shift into 4th just for an 1/8th mile run. i almost have to now.

I have an automatic so the 3.73s were quite a jump for me from the original 3.08s. I couldn't imagine having 4.10s in the car since I already drive around at 3k RPMS all the time :rlaugh:

If you want gears that is fine. But you have a 5 speed use it, "Down Shift" out of 5 th gear and it will be world of difference. At 52 MPH you go from 1500 RPM up to 2250 in 4th or 3000 in 3rd.

Agreed. I was going 5th to 4th. I need to find out where 5th to 3rd lands teh rpm and run that a few times.

Thanks to everyone!
