Mach 1 chin spoiler clips - what are they called?

I had my front bumper painted (twice) and they apparently lost some of the pins for the chin spoiler. I want to go to the hardware store and get some but would like to know what they are officially called so I don't have to spend all day trying to explain what they are. Don't they come in different sizes as well?

I believe they are called push-pins. I got mine at Vatozone. They are supposed to be for Ford trim pieces. They are cheap, $2 or $3 for a pack of 10 i think.

Do you remember if they were a certain size? Im sure there is more than one size.

They are called "panel retainers" .. you can get them at autozone or any auto parts store. If you need a lot of em, go to a local automotive paint store and they sell them in like 50 packs (FWIW).

Ironically, I had an almost empty pack of them sitting right beside me on a speaker box I just finished, so here's a pic of what you need:

when I picked my chin spoiler. Sorry no pic. Its a 2 piece push pin. you drill a hole , put it in there, then you push
in the attached pin. Then the inside will expand and tighten up. Much better than the "christmas tree type"

Well, if you want to get all technical then yes, the push pins you are talking about would work better than the ones I posted. But pop rivets would work better than your mentioned push pins.

Who cares? I had problems with a few of mine breaking off, and i said screw it, why not just use a freakin bolt? I went to home depot and just picked up some nuts, bolts, and washers, they hold 10x better than those sh1tty plastic clips.

i used 3m double sided tap + the push pins

it is not going anywhere

When you hit or scrape it you won't have any give so either the chin spoiler or the bumper are gonna tear up...with the plastic clips you have a built in protection device that allows you to replace some $5 clips instead of a $100 spoiler or worse a bumper. Thats why i didn't use a solid mount like you did.

Actually thats not the case if you use a properly sized washer. I had mine bolted up, and I pulled forward too far when i was parking once, and the spoiler hit the concrete block, and it just popped the spoiler off the bolts...the washers went through the hole, so no damage done to the bumper or anything. You just hafta get a combination of a right sized washer for the hole.

...or..... don't hit things

Will this pin fit in the existing hole that I already have drilled or is it a different size? I used the proper size bit that the instructions said to use... whatever that was.

You want to drill the hole as small as you posibily can for a good tight grab.
It should be so tight that its hard to insert before you actually push the pin in.
