Ok my parents got me a radio for my Ram for my birthday. Its a Sony Xplod and came with 4 speakers I think they are 6X9's and 6 1/2's. Anyway from what I read Rams use 6X9's and 5 1/4 speakers. So the plan is to build a couple boxes to hold the 6 1/2's and put them under my back seat and buy 5 1/4's to put in the door so I'll have 6 speakers. How would I go about wiring them up like that? I was just gonna splice into the rear wires but I'm thinking that will kill the quality and watts that are going to the rears  I'm also gonna get a small amp and hook it up to my JL sub that came with my stang and put it in the truck somewhere. Its just been sitting in my house since I put the box I bought in my car. Should be a kicking system when its all done. Can't wait to blast the country :D

i think you're right--if you splice the rear wires for an extra set, you'll probably kill the power down a bit.

best way, i figure, to take care of that is to install a relatively small amp to make up for the power loss.

good luck, man--should sound great.

You can only "splice" the rears if you are running an amp.. Honestly, Running 4 GOOD speakers will sound better than running 6 without enough power.. I recommend memphis car audio "M" class coaxials... The sound PHENOMENAL off deck power... For comparison, my Cobra has 15 speakers in it at almost 8000 watts... My explorer has the 5 memphis 5x7 coaxials run off deck power, and the honest difference between the two is marginal.. The cobra's system makes your ears ring at about 2/3 volume listening to rock, while the exploder can also make them ring but at max volume... Just some advice so you don't have speakers flopping around everywhere...BUT, if you still wish to add the extra set without an amp, I can still help you...

thanks turbo the master plan was to run an amp but just to the sub. The speakers are 190w peak power.I have no idea what my sub is rated at. I was thinking about using like a 200-300w amp. I wanted to put all the power into the sub. Is there a way to run them 2 speakers off the amp and still have close to full power to the sub or would I have to have 2 amps or a higher amp and cut it down going to teh speakers?

My car setup was pretty basic so that was easy

Can you give me the exact make and model of the amp...

I would worry about putting the 4 speakers off the head unit with some sort of high-pass filter on them... I do this with my pioneer head units.... then take your one subwoofer and amp for the bass and it will sound really good for low $$s....

Here is how to fit your 6.5" without hacking up the doors. I used the stock speaker mount as a template for the holes and cut out the size hole I needed for the speakers. Just an idea for you. All you need is a little bit of MDF.

thanks but I got it all installed. I knew I should have updated this lol. I only had to drill 2 new holes in each rear door for the mounting screws. I had to give up the amp and sub idea because the head unit didn't have the rca jack on the back. Would would have though a sony xplod with no rca jacks. Anyway it sounds good and I'm happy with it.
