Stupid carrier pin locking bolt!! How do I get it out??

Ok, I buy rear ends from the junk yard to part out and this is the 4th time this has happened to me !@#%!!!!! Can't they think of something better or make stronger bolts?!?

In case I am not calling it the correct name when I call it the Carrier pin locking bolt - I am reffering to the small bolt the threads into the carrier and has a pin that passes through the large carrier pin which holds the axles tight so the C-clips don't fall off.

I was thinking of trying a left handed drill bit, but I believe all of the part of the bolt that has threads on it came out, so what's left of the bolt in there has no threads on it. I tried standing the whole rear on end and tapping it with a hammer and letting gravity help, but no luck. Also tried small magnet with no luck.

Anything I can do short of cutting the h@ll out of the carrier??

A buddy of mine told me that when that happens to him he just uses a big hammer and a punch and beats on the pin untill the rest of the bolt breaks and the pin comes out. i dono ive been lucky and never had it happen to me.

I dont think its a hardened bolt so an ez out should work...

I used the hammer method and the torch method before the hammer method works good. Beat the bad side down through the head usually breaks off the pin and it will fall through.

I tried the hammer method when it happened to me and couldn't get it to go. I ended up torching the end of the cross pin off and beating it out.

they actually make a tool to remove those bolts with. I think we bought ours from Matco tools. It's a long drill bit and an ez-out. It has a special alignment deal that threads into the hole so it aligns it right. Pretty neat and not too expensive if I remember correctly.

I tried hammering on the pin with big punch for quite a while and it didn't work. What is breaking for you guys, the big carrier pin, or the retainer bolt? Is it better to beat on on side of the pin rather than the other.

I didn't have anybody to help me last night, but I'm gonna have somebody hold the punch today and hit it with a sledge hammer.

I would beat on the end opposite the bolt so you don't run the change of distorting the bolt hole as much.

Actually I think I'm gonna hold it and have my dad hit it, I trust him more than myself!
