Oh boy, I've always wanted to make one of these rant threads. Have you ever heard that old saying, you get what you pay for? Well, over the last few months in my life I've learned that to be 99% true. Awhile back I purchased a Pypes catback with the Race Pro mufflers(similar to magnaflows/dynomax/etc) becuase I have a turbo car and wanted something quiet. All I have to say is, the tailpipes included in their "catback" is complete junk. I don't know if its where I got my catback on special order becuase of the mufflers or what. The hanger on the passenger side tailpipe closes to the muffler is welded on in the wrong spot so the tip is sitting on the inside of the bumper cover. If you try to fix it then the tailpipe hits the tire, also the pipe hits the upper control arm. The driver side tailpipe is pretty close, has decent clearance of the tire and upper control arm. The flowtubes are too long as well, but I chaulked that up to me running a Y pipe with my turbo kit, although after seeing how everything else fits, thats probably not the problem. They also included 05+ Mustang instructions, but thats no big deal seeing as they list the instructions for each catback online. I sent them an email about the fit and asked about what they recommended, of course I got no reply. The tailpipes fit so bad, that im going to have to take them off and run dumps on the car, luckily for me its a turbo car so it should still be fairly quiet. Although here in my part of VA, they wont pass you on inspection if the tails doesnt go over the rearend. So, I dont know what im going to do, I should of had my ass kicked when I tried to save money instead of going with Magnaflow or something. Anyways, just figured id make a nice little rant thread. Thanks for listening! :nice:

I got a response out of them once, but they said where I was running a 275 Nitto tire, that I would just have to "make it fit and arrange it so it had enough clearance". I guess that means pulling out the welder and chop saw. If I was wanting to do that I would of pieced together my own catback instead of buying one. I've saw a few underside shots of cars with DD wheels and 315's on the back with magnaflow catbacks installed and they had plenty of clearance everywhere.

Ugh. Live and learn, haha.

I'll give a little update on this thread. After I posted this, I decided I'd go out and take a BFH and see if I could make it work. I'm decently pleased with how the driver side turned out. The passenger side on the other hand, Its livable but not the best fit ive saw. I'm fairly certain the entire reason for the fit issue on the passenger side is the bracket right behind the muffler causing everything.

I'm contempt for now for the most part, considering my circumstances:

1. Turbo kit, so it may fit a little better with your average header/midpipe setup
2. Orded the kit with the RacePro mufflers instead of the violators
3. I'm using 9" Wheels with a 275 Nitto DR

I'll say this in closing, the Pypes Catback is a decent catback for the money. I would only recommend it if you don't care to spend some time to fight with it to get it on decent. Maybe later down the road I will cut that hanger off on the passenger side and reweld it and see if that makes everything gravy. Hopefully this will help a few people in the future. After I get some drive time on it, I'll be able to give it a much better realistic review, one thing is for sure.

Its Quiet!! :)

I don't know how your car can be loud. I have a violator catback also and unless I'm on it hard, it's quiet. What x/h pipe and headers are you running?

Not what I'm running on my '86, but on the '89 notch I had (which Frankenstang is now running), I just had stock shorties, an off-road X-pipe, and 2.5" Violators with tails. Not obnoxiously loud, but definitely a helluva big step in volume above Flowmasters and most other muffs. I could get some video/audio of it, but digital recordings just don't do the sound justice at all...
