Ok well now that I have my brake swap completed I realized something the other day... My spare that I had bought BRAND NEW when I got the car no longer will fit. lol.... Anyone have any idea where I could get a spare that would fit the new brakes? I guess a cobra spare or something?

I looked into it since I did the cobra swap and I do not have a spare... .well for the cost of the cobra brake I would rather toast a wheel (I use the 99-04 GT wheels) driving on it... I keep a can of fix a flat in the car...

I do not know what other cars would have a 17" spare...

Or even what size spacer would be needed to make the 16" spare work????

Sometimes you can find them cheap on ebay. I'd just call around to different salvage yards in your area. Someone's bound to have a wrecked Cobra or Mach.
Or you could just get AAA. Free towing...

I got my spare off ebay for $175 of coarse I didn't have a spare before.

Sometimes you can find them cheap on ebay. I'd just call around to different salvage yards in your area. Someone's bound to have a wrecked Cobra or Mach.
Or you could just get AAA. Free towing...

AAA is going to cost you less than the spare. and has more perks.

Yea our spares are 17's on the cobras. Mine is freakishly large and barely clears. I have seen them at a few places. MPS Auto Salvage in GA prolly has some. The cheapest I have seen is 175 cause they are a lil rare. Best bet is to get a cheapo 17's rim.

You could always do the wheel shuffle, if you get a flat. Swap one of the rears to the front, and use the stock spare on the rear. Sure it's a PITA, but it's money better spent elsewhere, at least to me. I still have my stock spare that won't clear my Cobra brakes. The exception to that rule is if you happen to have wide rear tires that won't clear in front. Then you'd be best off getting the correct size, or get run flat tires.

That's what Corvettes come with...

...that's also usually the first thing Corvette owners ditch, in favor of better gripping tires.

No spare in 'vettes though, so once again the can of fix-a-flat, and AAA ideas come to mind.

i heard that is destructive to the rear posi. Anyone know if thats just a myth? Supposedly if (and spares usually are) smaller in dia. than the other wheel, it will constantly slip.

First thing I thought of, However spare wont fit over rear brakes also... lol. Rear brakes are cobra too... I mean worse case scenario I have 4 spares. My stock wheels lol.

AAA is well worth it and will be less than the spare. The travel and other discounts alone pay for itself if you use it.

Not to mention doing a tire swap on the road is friggan dangerous. Just sit in the car and call a tow. Tow it to the nearest shop that does tires or your house if you can fix it (nail or something) and be done with it.

200 seems a little outrageous, since you could buy a 17x9 cobra r for 99 bucks, and then a 43 dollar 17 inch tire and have a chrome spare

I am having this same dilemma. I have been carrying around a full size spare. Problem is it takes up most of the trunk space because it doesn't fit in the spare well. I am leaning towards the fix a flat option unless I find a really good deal on a cobra spare. As mentioned above, the GT spare is completely worthless when you have Cobra brakes in the rear also. It doesn't clear the calipers.

Tried that too, lol. waiting for response from one. And Checking with my connection in ford to see if he can do anything. And I got AAA when I got my car. Lol premium member account lucky me never had to use it yet *knock on wood*. I have in my car right now something I got from a crossfire. Baddest ass little thing. A little tiny freaking thing that has an air pump in it u plug into the cigarette lighter and fills your tire. Has tire guage and everything on it. It has really come in handy at times. And great to use at the track.
