Anyone of us left running a AODE...LOL,looking to see if any one else is running a TCI deep pan......put about 100 miles on it and noticed some spotting in the garage.......jacked it back up from front and noticed the allen head bolts are loose and two won't tighten up......Too short from what it seems......

I am running the B&M pan, which looks pretty much identical to the TCI. The new bolts that came with the pan seemed to be the same size as the factory bolts, but I did not really measure them to compare. In fact, I lost one of the allen head bolts that came with the pan and substituted one of the stockers and it has worked just fine. Are you using the Ford reusable rubber gasket? I have found that that is the only kind that does not leak on me. The paper one that came with the pan was junk, and the factory one was a little worn, so I bought a new one, and it has been re-used many times since.

I think I have a TCI pan, it's been a while. I had a leak recently, which my mechanic fixed. He said the gasket had failed even though it was a rubber reusable one. I'll be under the car this weekend, I'll check the bolts.

On a slightly related note, I always have a hard time checking the tranny fluid level. It should be easy, just like checking the oil - pull the dipstick, clean off the end, reinsert the dipstick, then pull it again. If there's fluid on the dipstick, you know where the level is. However, I've had three times I thought the transmission fluid was full but according to my mechanic it was too low. Last time, he fixed a tranny slipping problem by adding fluid and didn't even charge me. Is there something I'm missing?

I purchased the trans from someone who had it built. I have no idea of what gasket......I know I could tell the bolts were finger loose..had trans fluid on them....I took a allen wrench and there were 3 or 4 bolts that would start to tighten and then loosen up......you know the feeling....lol......I should be able to get some bolts 1/2 inch longer and thread lock the chit out of them..........

yeah, i hate that feeling, lol.

I'm just going to have to jack it up, drain it, and pull the pan because I want to see a few things..
1. How much hole is left for the bolts......dont want to go too deep....:rlaugh:
2. to see which gasket was used........

Norwalk and Milan open in 2 weeks and I want to make sure I don't burn up a new trans........

Always something..............:D

just a tip, drain the pan with the plug, and put the plug back in. Then let the SOB sit for about an hour or so if possible, because the thing is still gonna drip a ton of fluid back into the pan.
Kinda eliminates some of the mess involved in messing with the AODE.

Will, Eddie is right-on with the gasket. That thing cost me about 10 bucks a couple years back, but it's so much nicer (same idea as the embossed valve cover gaskets). The reusability is nice. And it's rigid (it almost stands on end if you lean it against something vertical).

They make them for pumpkins too. :nice:

You saw my thread I think (and were nice enough to post) about the 4R pan. Both Wes and Eddie put some pics on their of their respective pan set-ups.

Will, what did you do with (or to) the old AODE?
Good luck mang.

I should have held onto it but I was using if for weight in the work truck and pitched it............I was planning on pulling any electical part off...think I did pull the speedo sensor....got pissed one day and chucked it....lol I will go with the gasket that you and Eddie suggest....

 CAN U SAY HELICOIL???????????
XXXXXXXX 6 or more....might as well do the whole damn thing.......looks like I will be under the car again for hours.........

I don't know what the heck happened ...pulled a couple bolts.....(stainless with lock washers) and have spiraled aluminum shavings wrapped around the threads.......can hold them and unscrew the bolt and it looks like a freaking curly fry.....:rlaugh:

Someone want to come over and keep handing me Corona's under the car...:nono:

My one friend suggested just moving one bolt size up and just drilling and tapping the hole out...........or use permatex gasket for the whole pan.......I don't like that idea....I'm going to pull the pan tonight once Jess gets home and probably go the helicoil route........unless any of you have better suggestions......

Get the rubber embossed gasket. I tried the silicone route- didn't work out too well.

As for the bolts, I don't know, thats your call. I would lean toward the helicoil, to keep the same size bolts all the way around. The last thing you need is, in the future, to accidentally try to start one of those larger size bolts in a smaller thread, and cause more problems.

What a night....:rlaugh: .......Jess took off early so I could work on the Stang.....had to helicoil 4...removed all the lock washers....think that made them too short.....a chit load of Red lock tight and one forced in bolt into the helicoil......drove it to the car wash......sprayed all the trans fluid off that was on it from before...punished it for a few minutes.......will look tomorrow to see if anything leaks.....lol.....even took the Galaxie for trip around the block..........to CHILL.........
