Question for Fox guys/gals with black+grey interiors

Okay I have a 90Gt with the black and grey Gt interior. Here is where my problem lies. I am buying a new headliner for it tommorrow! The car has a grey vinyl kit over what was once the original headliner board! and looks like someone vomitted the vinyl onto the backer board :(

Did these cars come with grey headliners or with black ones? I am not sure and cannot find any pics of the interior that show what the headliners on these cars looked like in 90 as far as color pattern!

I'd just get it to match your A pillar color...if that's grey get grey, black get black. I don't have an exact answer but that would make sense to me. Unless you plan on one day going all black, then get the black headliner now.

Id go with black. The car stock would have had a grey headliner but I have seen nice black ones installed and it looks alot nicer.
I also had a vinyl headliner that looked like crap. I think the '90 and up headliners came in this meterial.

I used black speaker box carpet I bought at an audio store and made my own. Only took about 2 hours and it turned out great. Looks good with the stock gray color interior pieces too.

That pic above does look great.

My 91 LX 4cyl car, (now a 5.0L) has the 100% original interior. It is black and grey. The a pillar and headliner trim is black and the headliner itself is grey.

Now, I just had my 81 notchback headliner recovered in 2001 Midnight black to match the 2001 interior in my 81. It cost 45 bucks, I had my trim shop do it. It turned out great. I am using stock 87-93 black a pillar trim and roof trim with it. My interior will be 2001 midnight black with 87-93 black door panels, quarter trims, and pillar trims.

That does look good.

The sunroof and t-topped cars usually got the vinyl headliners while the plain-jane solid roof cars got a soft fabric headliner.

Mine's have black vinyl now...but i do like the above picture

mine was grey vinyl when I got it and was in really bad shape. I went out and got a couple yards of clack felt, some headliner adheasive and did it myself. Looks 10X better and the black makes it flow into the A-pillars a little better. Ive still got grey visors and that doesnt look to bad actually. I may switch to black if I can find some for cheap.

Hmm, so i just went and checked on my 5.0. Seems like the 4 years in storage made the headliner sag a bit. Guess i'll have to redo it.

I like the speaker box carpet look. Should match my black interior well

You guys should see the interior of my Merkur...it's called Raven Black, it's like the darkest grey can get just before it's black...but the head liner and rear panels between the windows are a super light grey color...and it's that way from the factory. I don't know if it's supposed to keep the car cooler in the summer or what.
