So yesterday was the first day in over six years that I had the GT out on public roads. I picked it up EARLY in the morning from my parents house and drove it to get it inspected (stupid VA) and get the new mufflers put on.

I took it to a local Lincoln Mercury dealer where I'm friends w/ all the employees. I talked to one last week and he said, "I'll turn a blind eye to your lack of catalytic converters". Well...he wasn't there yesterday......and I got the one guy at the whole dealership that doesn't like me. So, it failed (the bastard).

But anyway, everything was all fine and dandy last night. Not one single problem w/ the car. Today, I drive to my girlfriend's apt....which happens to be on a cobblestone street. When I finally park, we decide to take the Mustang to the beach (beautiful Saturday). When we got back in the car and took the cobblestone road out of there....all of a sudden, my radio doesn't work. No power. Dead. I checked all the fuses, but everything looks good. So I was pissed, but I just cruised out anyway.

On the way there, we get off the interstate to stop at 7-11. When I slowed for the offramp, I put it in second gear and there was a strange noise from the tranny. I thought it was weird, but it didn't feel any different. I pushed the clutch in and everything was okay. So we continued on to the beach. On the way back, (a 15-20 mile drive/all interstate) we get about 3 miles from her place and I hear a loud squeal and then a loud THUNK. I didn't have any driveline power. I pulled over to the shoulder and tried to get it out of 5th gear. It was stuck. I let the clutch half way out and it FLEW out of 5th and I heard a box of rocks rumbling around below me.

:Damnit: crapola crapola crapola

I let the inertia carry me down the nearest offramp to get out of interstate traffic. I pulled over on the shoulder of the offramp and tried to put it in gear. When the engine was running I could not get it into any gear. If I shut it down, I could get it into gear, but when I started to let the clutch out the tranny was popping and jerking. Every gear. Even reverse. So I'm thinking....input shaft? When the tow truck showed up he was pulling it onto the flatbed and even though I was holding the clutch in something was still popping and grabbing.

This sucks so much. I have waited 6 goddamn years to get this car back on the road, and I get 1.5 days out of it before the damn transmission explodes!

I've always wanted a T56. And now seems like the time...but :Damnit: I don't have $3000 just laying around right now.

So I guess I'm going to go through the trading post and make a few phone calls and see if I can get a used T5 for the time being.

Cry about it. :D

I have had several t5's go out.

Its never a good time. Just have to deal with it.

The only reason I bring up the cobblestone road and the radio going out is that I went over a pretty decent bump on Friday and the radio reset itself. It didn't forget any settings, but it powered off and immediately back on.

I know the T5 sucks...and its just one of those things, but I really hoped that after so many years of staring at this thing in a garage I could get one decent weekend of cruising.

Oh well.

that sucks...its the stangs way of saying thanks for leaving me for 6 longggg years!

Man that sucks. I know how you feel though. You know my thread about driving ?Hack Job today. I have the same thing going on. The trans is hard to get into gear when it's hot and reverse is a joke. I have to have the car off, then put it in reverse, then start it. When it starts, it rolls backwards. That is the clutch not disengaging. It sounds like that is what is wrong with your car, but the bad thing is the thunk sound you heard. I didn't have anything like that....but I'm pist too. 11 hard working months on my car, and then this. I know you have had 6 six years of sitting, so that is even worse.

IF you tear it down, let me know what you find out. Add to this thread, of PM me, or something. I am gonna order a clutch, it is just bad timing to try and put it in. TIME IS NOT MY FRIEND THIS WEEK!!!!!

I hope you can get it back together soon bro....good luck!!:flag:

SVT, I don't have to open the tranny up to tell what happened. Its in a million pieces I'm sure. That "Box-o-rocks" sound I heard is a definite sign that its gone. I've got a few phone calls to make today see what the cheapest solution is going to be....The worst is that I'm self employed at this point, so the income is anything but steady. I could get a line on a cheap tranny, but I wouldn't be able to buy it until maybe next week. ::sad face::

Yours honestly sounds like a clutch cable that is stretched/breaking. I went through this a couple weeks ago after pulling my car out of winter storage.

Sounds like your tranny is gone, but try to verify it first. Get the car up on jackstands and be sure that the clutch is properly engaging/disengaging. Make sure the clutch fork is doing what it's supposed to do and that you don't have a clutch that is screwed up.

I know the clutch is working right...if I have the tranny in "neutral" and let the clutch out, I can hear things inside the tranny spinning and bouncing around. when I press the clutch in, it stops.
