I took the day off of work on Friday and installed the PI intake and the PI cams. What a difference, I can't believe I've had my car for 4 years and hadn't done this yet. Just wanted to say thanks to stangnet, and specifically thanks to dusstbuster and hotmustang331 for the sweet write-ups. I bought brand new ford parts and spent just under $300.00 thanks to Steve and Kevin at Tousley Ford in White Bear Lake, MN. I also couldn't have done it without the help of my younger brother who did a sweet job holding the cam gears up! I am totally in love with my car again, and am trying to find any excuse to drive it! My exhaust sounds way better after the swap... much deeper. Even the wife likes the way it sounds... I LIKE

I actually thought the cam swap was easier than the intake swap. Getting the intake on without disturbing the RTV'd coolant ports was stupid, because the EGR valve is in the way and you have to maneuver the intake underneath it without touching the intake gaskets which is very frustrating because there is only about 1 inch of clearance between the intake and the gasket. Also, the bolts to get the coolant tube off are a PITA to get to beind the motor. The cam covers were really easy to get off, and if you follow hotmustang331's write up there is no way you can screw it up. Just make sure you have someone reliable that can hold the cam sprockets while you change the cams cause if you get slack in the timing chains the chain may skip a tooth on the crank sprocket throwing off the cam timing. It is also a good idea to have a good set of 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive sockets.

The intake alone made a noticeable difference in the upper reaches of the RPM's, but the cams make it feel like the car has more torque across a broader RPM range. It pulls a lot better from 3500 to redline. For how inexpensive PI cams are it is definitely worth it. I got the cams brand new from DSS racing for $50 shipped on e-bay, and I think the cam bolts were less than $10 from Steve/Kevin Tousley Ford. One of the best HP/dollar mods for a NPI car.

Congrats on the install and the inexpensive price on the cams! Should have come like this from the factory. I had the reverse experience when I did the install as I used NPI gaskets so I didn't have to worry about the water ports, just the air intake ports in the inner sides of the heads. Tear up them streets (legally)!

How sad is it that I have most of the parts sitting just a few feet away from me and still haven't put them in :rlaugh:

I still need a few misc. items since I have only the basics:
pi intake
pi cams
pi cam bolts
valve cover gaskets

I guess I need to piece together the extra parts :(
