How to test new 4.10 gears

Is there a way to test newly installed gears? We installed some on my buddies and want to make sure they are installed correctly, there seems to be no whining (hard to tell with an O/R H-Pipe). I remember reading that the RPMS should be higher now but can't remember.

It should feel different when you floor it. Also, your highway RPMs should be significantly higher.

drop the clutch at 2500 rpms, and let those tires fry all the way through 2nd

If there isnt any whine then they are fine, also listen for any chatter indicating too loose. Dropping the clutch (or break torque an auto) will only tell you if the trac loc is working not weather a gear install is a little off. Of course if it was ALOT off and you did that itd be some pretty cool carnage

If you let off the gas and the rearend starts to howl the backlash was set incorrectly. Also listen for any kind of knocking, or noise that sounds out of place. It is important to set the gears up properly to ensure long life of the ring and pinion. Other than that I can't think of any other way to "test" the gears without taking off the diff. cover and getting smelly gear oil every where.

Its my buddies mustang but he might have to take the h-pipe off to hear anything, the MAC O/R h-pipe is f*****g loud but awesome...we'll put the stock h-pipe back on and see

You don't need to put the stock H pipe back on. If it is whining you will here it when you let off. If you can't here anything it is fine. Don't worry about it. BTW who installed them. If they are a reputable dealer or something it will be under warranty.

We did ...Thats why we are worried...the only strange thing is a funny smell like burning rubber but no sounds and the speedo is like 20mph off
