any opinion on this?

http://item.express.ebay.com/Consum...QQptdiZ957QQddiZ945QQadiZ967QQcmdZExpressItem

seems a little pricey, but it looks like it works well..

i had an itrip and it was absolute crap. no more fm modulators for me.

on my jeep, i have a jvc headunit hooked up to a jvc ipod direct connect unit, and it works the balls.

i considered swapping the whole thing over to my stang, but i dont like the single din look on a double din opening....id go right to a double din nav system if i could, but i dont want to spend the $600+ minumum for a good one.

i didnt realize they had something like this for the stock mach headunit until today, but im not sure if there are any better/cheaper solutions..

I use a PIE adapter for my Ipod. It plugs into the rear of the unit and creates an AUX input with RCA jacks as the inputs. I then use an RCA splitter and two RCE to 3.5mm jack cables. I actually have it split and use one for my Sat radio and the other for my Ipod which runs to the center console. I just plug it in the headphone jack and it plays over the 460. Was $70 I think.

I beleive they have dedicated Ipod controllers now, so you might want to take a look

I've had my setup fir 3 years now. Works nice. You just hit CD twice and it puts the Mach 460 into DJ mode and whatever you plug into the 3.5mm jack plays.

for $180 you could buy a new head unit

i'm using a $20 FM modulator in my Xterra. it is the one that needs a switched power to run. when it is on it wont pick up any radio stations other than the Ipod one. it works great for the price and sound quality is a 9 out of 10.

thanks guys.

appreciate the help, though i dont like the modulators....so, im gonna look into the one 5l5 posted.

how does that setup sound?

EDIT:

after looking at that site, 5l5, the $80 will only work on 1999-2003, and also says its not compatible with the 6-Disc in-dash headunit

http://www.logjamelectronics.com/blitzfordmlink1v1coem.html

there is another $130 unit for 2004, but does not work on the 460 as well.

the only one that says it IS compatible with the 460 6-disc changer for 2004 is the $150+$9s/h. P.I.E. unit http://www.logjamelectronics.com/piefrd03pods.html

ahh, nevermind, i found the thing you were talking about.

i never knew these things were out there. i figured i had to go either fm modulator or a new headunit. i think i like the functionality of the $150 unit. i guess i gotta spend some cake one way or another to get ipod functionality.

These things sound great. I tried the FM modulator route before it it sounds like crap compared to directly wiring. If you have a decent quality MP3, the sound and bass is clear and crisp.

hey, thanks for looking, saleengt.

i think im going to buy one of those ones. it comes with the headphone jack setup and free shipping for $63.

you can get one that charges too, but that thing is an octopus of a mess.

thanks for the find.

those things are so freaking expensive you are far better off just saving for a new head unit.

Not only will you add iPod capability you will add all the options of the new head unit and have far better sound quality even paired to the mach speakers integrating the amplifiers.

+1

thats exactly the crossroads im at.

i want to fill the whole thing in with an indash lcd eventually, so i dont want to spend the $$ right now on a cheaper single din, or a single din with a pop out 7" screen. im not a fan of either in the stang radio bezel.

ill spare the $80 for now for that part and the auxiliary line to hood the ipod up, and be able to keep the stock look, instead of paying $200 for a single din radio that id be swapping again down the road. seeing a single din in there would bother me...otherwise id have just thrown in the sinlge din JVC headunit that i already have thats in my jeep, that already has the ipod direct hookup.

Well, the P.I.E. parts came in today, and since i called in 'sick' today, i was able to put it in. It took me all of 1 hour to install it all.

It was real easy, dissassembly of the radio bezel was easy, i ran the P.I.E. unit into the glovebox and screwed it in place. I ran the 3.5 line inside the center console, and up into the armrest. I just drilled a 3/4" hole right under the power plug inside the armrest. When i want to listen to the ipod, all i gotta do is open the armrest, pull the line out, shut the armrest and plug the ipod in.

With this one, you gotta use the 'SAT' button to use the ipod. I know some of them you gotta press the 'CD/AUX' button twice, but this one is just the 'SAT'.

The clarity is cd quality, no more in and out reception, and im happy once again in life.

Thanks for the help guys, and 5l5, thanks for the link.

Bringing back a dead thread for a reason..

Will that harness that says "2004-2006" work with my '02? I've got the same 6-disc changer for the mach 460 stuff and don't want to change cd players just to hook up my iPod.

I do have a different head unit in there after my last one took a crap and it might be a 2004 head unit, can't remember.. it's exactly like my '02 one was and has the same harness connections in the back

Unless you pony up the coin for a double din unit, a single din in a double din slot looks cheap and screams "used car lot" special to me.

I've seen some well done systems to replace the Mach 460, but most are in the $1000+ range. I'd rather stick with the 460 6-disk unit in leu of a single din head unit
