Trac lok rebuild question

I think I used this.

I use Mobil 1 in all my stuff, its pretty decent and easy to find.

You need to put friction modifier in it, but also you should change the fluid after like 500 miles, to make sure all the particles/contaminates are out.

hey how did you rebuild it? did you do the modd build with the clutch steel clutch steel cluch steel clutch spidergear? I used one of my old clutch's and built it that way. worked awesome. very tight rearend now.

I had to read that 4 times before i realized you weren't having a seizure while typing :rlaugh:

I'm gonna be rebuilding mine soon, can you give some specifics and tips on what you're talking about?

Also what's a ballpark number on cost to do a rebuild, including fluids and all that?

why bother its a trac lock it will go after a couple months rebuild any way. spend some money get an eaton or an auburn. I got sick of rebuilding my trac loc every year so i went with the auborn pro

I think that's a bit pessimistic. I've been pounding on mine for 4 years and it's just now thrown in the towel. Ever consider that maybe you're not doing the rebuild right?

burn :flame:

My rear-end was from a mustang that im surer was beaten since it was written off. I abused it for 6 years. Finally it would not do nuts anymore. launched leaving two black strips but no nuts so I rebuilt it. I used to have a link to the sight but it is no longer valid. Sorry I searched for info on it but I can't find the info I was reading when I did mine. I just know I used one of my old clutch's with the new ones that came in the ford racing kit. I do not have metal on metal anywhere. always a clutch between the metal pieces. It really likes spinning both tires now.

I'm a bit tight on funds right now so we're just gonna pull mine out and add some clutches to it. I figure right now it's not working so it can't get any worse, and if it works for a few months it'll be worth the cost in fluid to do it.

yah all you are doing with the modded rebuild is changing the configuration of steel to clutch's. The factory set up is a schim a clutch two steel's a clutch two steels and a clutch and the spider gear. the modded way ends up with the same overall thickness. just mic the pack that you take out and get it if you can a bit thicker. it makes the s spring a pain to get back in but it will work. you want it to mic out when you are finished back to factory specs. what they are I forget.
