Parts you regret buying?

Just curious, has anybody bought aftermarket performance parts that, for whatever reason, are crap? Parts that are not on your car and that you wish you had not wasted your money on?

I don't think I've seen a thread about this, at least not in a long time. I thought it might be interesting, and maybe helpful to the newbsters prowling about.


I'll start with a Densecharger air intake tube I bought a long time ago. It didn't fit my stock tb well, so it's been in the garage for years now, collecting dust.

Probally just the CAI just because I am going FI over the winter so it was just a waste of money really. I do think it makes the engine bay look alot better though so that's good.

My under drive pulleys... well not so much them, the Steedas did make a difference and I got 50k miles out of them, but I wish I'd have kept my stockers.

I had always sworn I was going to build a 350 rwhp street driven N/A car... suddenly I'm on my way to a 500 rwhp daily driven FI car.

HP twin turbo kit, (not sitting in my garage). With all the problems I had/have I should have bought a KB and been done with it.

UPR performance fuel pump for 99-04 mustang. This is not a bolt in. You have to hack up the plastic bucket to make it fit. For $10.00 more you can but the SVT focus pump and drop it right in. With the same lph.

brand new NPI intake manifold(pre stangnet member), UPR quickshot quad, maxspeed springs, cheap gauges, color changing gauge faces, racing harnesses (they get annoying). and a huge heavy stereo system(should of spent the 6k on go mods(young and stupid))

Me too! My canton expansion tank split down one of the welds and I bought some granetelli coils that misfired from 4500 rpms and up. I also wish I had gone with long tubes instead of shortys.

CAI was a waste of money since i later added a vortech. other then that i have been pretty happy with my choice in mods. i did a butt load of research and asked a lot of stupid questions before i bought anything.

my two best mods are hands down 1 my vortech and 2 my mach1 brakes.

Comp cams xe270ah is my worse buy . Cams and valve springs cost me about 700 and 1200 for install . Now my engine shakes alot and cannot put supercharger or turbo .

31 spline trac lock that lasted 50 passes, MAC, BBK, (insert name here of a few others now out of business) CAI that I bought for testing and were all worthless, Flowmasters...blew the baffles out of 2 pairs of them, SCT Pro Racer Package a cool product but in the hands of the inexperienced and over worked it was a waste for me, O/R H pipe...O/R X worked better, Bullitt intake...for the money it would have paid for cams but at the time there were no options for plenums, 70mm waste of money, piggyback pulleys...nearly cost me an engine, SPEC stage 3 clutch...lasted me 80 passes and was broken in right. I'm sure there is stuff I'm forgetting but that is enough for now.

80 passes? On a street vehicle? For the price of a stage 3, a stage 4 or 5 would have been worth it probably if you were making enough power.
