i was wondering if there is anyway to tell whats done to an engine without tearing into it ? the reason i ask is because the person i got my car from said it was stock but i was at my one of my friends house and he was talking to a guy that owned my car awhile back and said there was alot done to it. i just want to know what i have, everyone tells me its quick but thats because they drive hondas

nope, no real easy way to tell with out tearing into it. i guess the easiest way would be to pull a header and see if the egr boss has been grinded down in the exhaust ports. i don't see why anyone would port a set of e7's without grinding that down.

ok ill do that and see i just dont want to buy anything and put it on and not see any power gains, ive had ppl say they think it would run high 12s or low 13s but that was just what they think i would be happy with mid 13s myself. the only thing ive done to the car is stripped everything out that i didnt need (heat,a/c,smog,seats,carpet,radio,ect,ect) and done an efi to carb with a stock intake and 600 cfm edelbrock carb and it has 2.73 gears and a t5

well the reason i ask is because a guy i work with has an 83 mustang with a 302 and he thinks it bad as s**t and it runs 9.57 in the 1/8 with 4.10 gears and racing slicks, and i was just thinking that thats not that good atleast i didn't think so, he is always talking about how he is going to kill me on the track i just tell him ok and walk away

Yeah... the gears will allow a 14 sec run!! Leave the engine alone.. drop in a set of 3.70s and stop tring to guess, cool?? No matter what the engine has... those 2.70's are going to make a slow 1/4 mile car, yes??

gears are on the list of things that i would never personally do to my car.. do them wrong and you get this annoying noise coming from the rear diff.. just pay and have it done right. then again, i'm a complete wuss with my car because it's my DD and the last thing i'd want to do is screw something up haha :D

Why? Installing rear end gears are easier than people make it out to be. I am personally very fond of the FRPP gears and have never installed any other brand like Motive but if your smart enough to rebuild a motor or rebuild a set of heads and give your O2 on this site about the subject you can swap out a set of gears with some reading and have some success at it.

Assume it's stock and enjoy. I don't see why anyone would port the heads and not the intake and throttle body. If it's a stock sized throttle body, it's probably a safe bet to say the heads are untouched also. If you've got stock headers, then chances are nobody has touched anything.

PS. Who gives a sh** if it's a 306, for those who brag about it.

well it doesn't have a throttle body its a carb, and is it better to port the stock heads (e7te i believe) or just save and buy a good aftermarket set. can you get a good pair for 500 - 700 anywhere ?

you're not going to find any aftermarket aluminum heads in that price range. the closest i've seen are the patriot performance heads which where $895 assembled for a pair, but i think they've gone up some since they came out. the guy that commented above, thumper460, does wonders with the stock e7 heads. i've actually got a set of heads he worked on on my car. go to his website and read up some. Don't bother spending money on those door stops (e7's). You can possibly find some worked gt40p's for about that amount, otherwise spending money on untouched iron heads is usually not worth it, not for the amount used alluminums are going for now.
