My Former American Racing Torq Thrusts

A buddy/co-worker is trying to sell them for me. He took them to a shop and the person there said, "Oh, those wheels from China!" Upon closer inspection, those little balance squares were all over the place, even some inside the spokes! Apparently, not very well made. I am under the impression they are TPOJ (total pieces of junk). Any comments one way or the other? I'd would hope the person at the auto shop is wrong and the wheels were somehow balanced incorrectly or did a sloppy job.

What basis is the guy at the shop going off to determine they're made in China? They very well could be simply balanced incorrectly. I always thought American Racing was supposed to be a quality brand and hopefully made in America...

I've got American Racing Torque Thrusts on my 1965 Mustang 2+2 with no problems. I've got American Racing Rogues on my 2008 Mustang with no problems. American Racing is a good company. They are by far not the best, you're not paying for them to be the best, but they are not the worst either.

Hmmm.. no problems here..

There are so many cars at shows with the TT rims.. I highly doubt they are poor quality.. (even if they are made overseas)..

the little squares are stick on wheel balance weights. better than a huge ugly weight stuck to the outer edge of your rim.

Thanks for the feedback. Apparently, the person at the auto shop may have been verbally bashing the wheels to get my price down.

According to TireRack, the wheels are made in China and there's nothing wrong with that as long as its a quality product. Also, I hope I didn't offend those who own them. I quite enjoyed mine until I found ones I liked better.

And no, NastyStang my car is not pink, but you can get one with a V6

Those little balance squares are stick on wheel weights, they have nothing really to do with the wheel. They are, however, a PAIN to do properly. If the wheel isn't perfectly clean when you stick them on, they will fly off and go anywhere they want. So if they weren't where they should be, that's the cause.

If you mean there were an abnormal amount of them, that could be becauseof the wheel being bent (doubtful), or the tire having heavy spots (crappy tire), or most likely from the person that balanced it not knowing how to match-mount a tire.

Yes American Racing wheels are made in China(what isn't nowadays) but they are a quality wheel. Boyd Coddington wheels are also made in China as are Chip Foose branded ones.

Fikse wheels are made in the USA...and you pay for it.
