what kind of +HP are you looking at with a gt40 manifold?

The stock intake is the biggest bottleneck for the stock motor followed by the heads. You will probably get 10-15 rwhp with just the intake but you really won't see the benifits till you get rid of the stock heads.

No, GT40 is most likely the best intake for a stock headed car. Stock heads blow though :(

I wish I could nut up and buy some real ones.


Yea, they are not the best in stock form but I stand behind my E7's that have been worked by Thumper Performance. I have the Cobra intake with the lower port matched to the heads. I put that Cobra intake on with just full exhaust about 2 years ago and noticed only a small gain in power but when I got my new combo I am pretty happy with it so far. I would say get the GT40 and use it. It will help you a small bit now but it will complement and big changes you make in the future. Just my O2
 
send your stock lower to TMOSS to get ported. it will most likely be cheaper than a gt40, then slap on some gt40 irons. you will notice an immediate impovement throughout the entire powerband.

Get some GT40 iron and send your stock lower to Thumper and get them both ported, or spend a few more to get some AFR's.


Start out with the intake and grow in time. No rush!
 
No offense to those who've ported out their stock stuff, but if you're going to spend the money, do yourself a favor and just move up to the better intakes. Performer, GT40, and Cobra are all excellent long runner intakes that will keep the low-end torque that will work well with stock E7s. Don't pick a high rpm intake like the TFS Track heat, Eddy RPM etc... These intake will prevent you from optimizing low-end torque, and the stock heads will prevent you from optimizing top-end power. So what your left with is the worst of both worlds, and you will gain little to nothing as a result of your bad judgment.

Don't stay with the stock stuff... yes there is an improvement to be had by porting it, but it doesn't justify the cost when the market is flooded with used intakes for roughly the same cost (250-300 bucks). Then you have a better quality intake that will likely outflow a ported stocker, and you still have the option to port out your new intake for more power later on.

Here is a series of dyno test done on cleanLX's ported stock intake and ported stock E7 junk - if you put the right parts together, you make some pretty darn respectable power with ported stock junk.
