High idling when in neutral fully warmed up

Been waiting on answer about codes.my first thought was act but u say is new. Iac was only cleaned .with no codes im leaning to egr valve sticking.but also tb linkage .when metal heats it expands and thats when your problem acures .most tb problems will spit code but egr wont

EGR flow at idle will cause the engine to stall, not idle higher.

Thats what I was thinking, have you checked the tps or no, I have another car and when I start it, it idles fine after a while the idle will climb to about 2000rpms or so and stay there, I can shut it off, unplug the tps and when I start it back it idles just fine, I know the tps is my problem I just havn't replaced it yet, may not be your problem but the symptoms sound similar, good luck:nice:

I'm not sure on that and I thnk the TPS was replaced before.

:nono:yeah if its stopped up it would try to stall. but if small a peace of trash or somethin went threw and stuck the egr valve open it would act just like a vacume leak. and if more and more trash comes in and strats blocking it off it would start stalling it out

Due to the properties of inert gasses, this is not something I've experienced. I'm not sure that others have either.

And you're talking about two different issues. An EGR valve that's stuck open causes stalling due to the dilution. EGR passages that are clogged or coked cause part throttle pinging and seldom cause idle issues (because EGR gasses cant make it back to the intake anyhow).

1. Have you checked codes yet? Just because the light isn't on doesn't mean there are no codes, check both Engine off and Engine on.

2. Have you went through the list I referenced?

I don't want to just guess, because then you might be throwing parts at a problem and not fixing it. It could still be a number of things, TPS, vacuum leak, etc.

Check the codes first, then the list and if everything passes, it could just be a base idle reset. But you won't know unless other items are addressed first. I know the list refers to surging idle, but those checks will help narrow down the problem, as many issues are tied to the same pieces as to what could be causing your problem.

At lastly what rpm does your car run at on cold warm-up? On average.

But it does run at 800 RPM normally.:nice:

read this

Ford Fuel Injection EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR)

this just clearly stated that the rpms would change. weather its clogged or not if its not working
this is off another site different car same princ.

EGR Valve / Solenoid - Tech / General Engine - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards

regardless this is not her problem i did some research.

I'm well aware of the theory and practical application of the EGR system. I saw nothing that refuted what I already stated. In the FFI article, the idle would degrade if doing their test.

And I'm not sure what the point of the third Gen link was.

Some posts ago, I mentioned that the symptoms didn't support an EGR issue. :)

Unless I missed something, she still has not checked the codes, so until then we are just guessing.

The IAC was only cleaned. I have had problems with my car in the past, all be it surging idle, that I cleaned the IAC very well twice and had no effect. Replaced the IAC and problem fixed, of course after a computer reset.

It still could be a number of things, so I am not venturing out with a guess untill the codes answer comes back.

I'll have a mechanic check it out. I don't have that kind of equipment and tools.
