1986 170 mph speedometer

anybody know where i can find a new 170 mph speedometer to replace mine in my 1986 mustang?

I have never seen a 170mph unit. I bought a 140mph off ebay awhile back

The only 170 mph speedo I've ever seen is in a Saleen.

Yea and the SSP's have 160mph ones. Ford Racing used to have a 160mph replacement speed-o also but dont know is they do anymore.

If you are going to reuse your 170 gauge face, and just need the actual speedo, you can get another 85 or 140 speedo and send it out to be calibrated to your 170 face.

Cool! It's a completely different faceplate than used in the 86 Saleens too. They don't have the kph on them.

Hmmm weird. The bezel is the same as mine. The color on the guages looks as if they are aftermarket.........not sure though.

The 170mph speedo in my '86 hatch looks the same as the 140mph Ford Motorsport gauge is my other '86 GT....

I don't know how I feel about 170 mph in a Fox, especially a 4-Eye... Sounds like certain death, haha.

Haha. I don't ever plan to go over a 100 anyways. Its a street car which never sees the strip. I just did it for the cool factor, ya know? I like unique stuff like that.

My brother had a 170 MPH speedometer in his '85 GT. He sent his original WORKING 85 mph speedometer out to BBK to get it calibrated and to have the 170 MPH face installed. When he got it back, it was all over the place and he was p***sed! He kept it in there until he found a Ford Motorsport 140 mph speedometer and then he replaced it with that. I believe that BBK is the only manufacturer of those faces but I'm not too sure.

That was a sticker i'm pretty sure that BBK just put over the top of your gauge and then recalibrated it. Those weren't very good in my opinion. But i never heard up them being junk as you described. But my 170mph speedo is identical to the Ford Motorsport one. Its not a sticker. Its identical to the 140mph speedo in every way, shape, and form but it goes to 170 instead. Mine also works properly, though, i'm never had the car over 110ish. But i would imagine it works great.

Edit: As for the BBK 170mph stickers. I believe those were available up to atleast last year. I remember seeing them in the Brothers Performance catolog. BBK still may do that as well, i have no idea. Never have checked.
