What Should I do? Opinions?

I just got a GT40 Intake and Im going to have it media blasted to clean it up. I want to either, paint or have it powder coated but I dont know what I should do? I also dont know what color I should do, Im thinking either silver, gun metal or black but Im unsure?

Here is what it looks like now

Heres an old pic of my engine bay, I have painted some things black and plan on adding some polished things also.

I'd go with a factory looking satin silver, or do it in black and sand off the tops of the fins and get a set of valve covers to match.

I like that idea, painting it black and sanding the top of the fins

If you got some of those Powered By Ford valve covers they would look sweet, but the oil fill cap is in the wrong place for EFI. You'll have to shop around..i think Edelbrock make some just like them.

Your car is gonna wake up so much with that intake!! Do the fins and get the ford racing valve cover, I've seen one car with that setup and it looked sick

I sanded mine down, wire-brushed 'em, hosed 'em off with brake cleaner, and then painted mine with high-temp engine paint (satin black finish). Seems to be holding up great so far. Powdercoating would be, in theory, more durable, but a lot more expensive.

Yeah, just paint it, powdercoating is nice, but not needed at all.

Damn your lid looks fantastic...is that original? I've been thinking for a long time about how to put the machined finish back into them but i have yet to come up with a good enough way to make it look factory again. I also wish like hell i could run my stock covers again but they won't clear my rockers and i'm too cheap to buy the spacers...my only other option is 5/8 thick cork gaskets but i don't like that idea either. It's a shame too because i did a textured satin black paint job on them and machined the fins and they look awesome.


What you REALLY need are some of these vintage Mickey Thompson valve covers...if you're lucky enough to find a set. I restored these for a buddy (also did another set for a Chevy bud of mine just like them).

Thanks. Yeah, the lid's original. It looked pretty horrible when I first got it, but I sanded and polished it and then threw a couple of coats of that Turtle Wax Chrome Polish on there just for good measure. I've been debating about whether or not to bother getting another of those "5.0 EFI" decals for it, but I dunno ... I kinda like the clean look a little more. I'm not planning on doing anything wild with the motor or the car, I just wanted to pretty things up a bit while I had it apart to do the gaskets.

Here is my stock intake, I did this a few years back and it still looks great. The yellow is just model paint that I used model brushes to paint in. The black is flat black engine paint

Im looking into powder coating, I just email a local guy for a quote, depending on the cost will decide if I do it or not. Im thinking of going with satin black, what do you think?

Oh, by the way, it cost me right around $100 to get my GT40 done in white(or any other color).
